We require ONE WEEKS notice to call students from class for ANY reason. Both the head and assistant coaches should be at all practices, games, etc. for the duration. No one may coach or VOLUNTEER as a coach who is not at least 21 years of age. We support MS students playing up when allowed; however, MS students should attend all MS games and the HS games when we do not play. No athletes may be in school after hours without your direct, eyes-on supervision. You need to ride the bus with your students, and we encourage you to get your CDL to help our program funding. Current schedule is on-line on LCMS home page; you will ensure parents get a copy; hover on "Athletics" quick link; click on appropriate schedule. KHSAA physical forms are on our website. Students must have a completed one turned in to you that is LESS THAN ONE YEAR OLD before they can participate in Open Gym, try out, practice, play, etc. Once you get all forms, make copies and leave a copy of each with AD (one must always be with you at games, practices, etc.). I ask that you fundraise and look into getting a CDL to help us save much needed funds for the future. We also request that you do fundraisers to help pay operating costs (transportation, officials, supplies, uniforms, tourney fees, etc.). Boys and girls may each play a total of at most 14 games (current tourneys count as one game). No game changes may be made after September 1 for any reason other than inclement weather due to printing, teacher scheduling, concession scheduling, officials/buses, etc. No money is spent, collected, etc. without discussing with Nora Cherry at least two weeks in advance and following all Red Book procedures (purchase orders, multiple receipt form, fundraiser approval, officials’ checks, etc.). Coaches Code of Ethics The function of a coach is to educate students through participation in interscholastic competition. An interscholastic program should be designed to enhance academic achievement and should never interfere with opportunities for academic success. Each student should be treated with the utmost respect, and his or her welfare should be considered in decisions by the coach at all times. Accordingly, the following guidelines for coaches have been adopted by the NFHS Board of Directors. The coach shall be aware that he or she has a tremendous influence, for either good or ill, on the education of the student and, thus, shall never place the value of winning above the value of instilling the highest ideals of character. The coach shall uphold the honor and dignity of the profession. In all personal contact with students, officials, athletic directors, school administrators, the state high school athletic association, the media, and the public, the coach shall strive to set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct. The coach shall take an active role in the prevention of drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse. The coach shall avoid the use of alcohol and tobacco products when in contact with players. The coach shall promote the entire interscholastic program of the school and direct his or her program in harmony with the total school program. The coach shall master the contest rules and shall teach them to his or her team members. The coach shall not seek an advantage by circumvention of the spirit or letter of the rules. The coach shall exert his or her influence to enhance sportsmanship by spectators, both directly and by working closely with cheerleaders, pep club sponsors, booster clubs, and administrators. The coach shall respect and support contest officials. The coach shall not indulge in conduct which would incite players or spectators against the officials. Public criticism of officials or players is unethical. The coach should meet and exchange cordial greetings with the opposing coach to set the correct tone for the event before and after the contest. The coach shall not exert pressure on faculty members to give student special consideration. The coach shall not scout opponents by any means other than those adopted by the league and/or state high school athletic association. Please call/text (270-839-1827), come by, or email me if questions or concerns. Please maintain communication with me and give me a heads up to any issues that may arise. Looking forward to a great year. Head coaches should ensure all assistants, volunteers, etc. sign a copy of this. ____________________________________________ Coach’s Signature LCMS Coach Expectations Page 3 of 3 _________________ Date
