If you draw an infinite x-axis.
Then pick any point on the x-axis to the left of the paper.
Set your dividers to some distance apart (the length of your thumb)
Flip the dividers and make 5 circles
Make a mark at the starting point and the ending point (center of circle)
Above the x-axis where the two circles intersect, take the dividers with the same setting, put the
point at the intersection, make small marks to create another intersection.
Draw another horizontal axis (g) thru your new has marks
Now make a y-axis thru where the 3rd and 4th circles are cross above and below the x-axis. (this is
the center of the building)
From the intersection of your g axis and y axis and to the center point of your two outside circles
draw a line (this is your top of roof plane)
With the dividers still at your original setting, set the point at the intersection of x and y, make a
mark on the x-axis..
Connect this mark to the point above the x-axis where the two circles intersect directly above,
carry it to your top of roof plane line. This is your eave wall.
Draw another horizontal axis (h) along the top of all 6 of the circles you drew, this is your top of
rafter plate.
Now you see the building.
Now draw a complete circle using the intersection of x an y as the point and roof peak as pencil.
Within that circle draw one petal of the daisy wheel vertically.
Because…If you bisect the daisy wheel you created from the height of the building and put it on
your dividers.
Starting where the x and y axis cross make a mark and above the intersection.
Set your dividers back to ½ building width (your beginning circle), draw a circle on those marks,
you have just located the straining beam and the tie beam.
Bisect the rafters on your dividers.
Draw 4 circles one at each corner of the building.
You have just located your B and C posts (intermediate wall posts)
Finding the queen posts comes from bisecting the rafter, and putting the point on the peak.
The point where the circle crosses the line is queen post location.
Queen posts occur where that circle crosses the top of roof line, draw a plumb line form this point
to the tie beam.
Guess what the first setting on the dividers is in real world terms? 1 rod.
