Picture Entry #1: Character Information, Biography, and Background Date: Any time between 1890-1900 For this project, you will create a character that will “experience” certain historical events that we cover during this semester. Your character will live through events such as World War I, the Great Depression, etc. Your job will be to write about what your character experiences, how your character experiences events, and why your character has experienced these events. To do so, you will include pictures from the period that will help explain these experiences. Using these pictures you will write about these experiences. Guidelines Your character will be born sometime between 1890-1900 You can turn into any character you want – male, female, white, AfricanAmerican, Native-American, Asian-American, Mexican-American, a businessman, soldier, local or state politician, farmer, factory worker, stockbroker, doctor, teacher, nurse, rancher, stay-at-home mother, banker, etc. Before each picture entry, we will discuss the different topics and events that your character may have experienced during the period we are covering (i.e., the different things that you can write about) For each picture entry, you must explain: A) what your character has experienced (a brief description of the event or topic) B) how your character experienced a certain event or topic (what went on?) C) why your character experienced a certain event or topic (why did this event take place? And why did your character live through it?) Every picture entry must include three pictures to go along with the particular event or topic Picture entries must be at least one page long Additional Comments Write your journal in a real-time method – you write as time goes on. 1) For this first picture entry, you are writing about your character’s background and beginnings. Provide the following information in your first picture entry and write your information on the back of this paper. This is due at the end of the period Friday. A. When was your character born (choose dates between 1885-1895)? B. What is your character’s name? C. Explain your family background – 1. How many parents do you have? 2. What do they do for a living? How many brothers or sisters do you have? Older? Younger? D. What is your family’s history? That is, have you always lived in one area? Are you immigrants from another country? Are you from the rural country side? E. What do you think your character might want to do when they “grow up”? F. What do you do now? G. Pick three pictures.
