People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe
and implement traditional Fijian culture in a Fijian early
childhood service; and describe, implement, and demonstrate
the Fijian style of learning, and act as a role model in a learning
situation.

Definitions
A Fijian early childhood service is a culture specific service responsible for all aspects
of the child’s development.
Service may include but is not limited to – early childhood centres, home based early
childhood educational programmes.
Fijian traditions refer to the traditional way that things are done.
Fijian way refers to the way things are done according to cultural traditions which are
handed down through generations.

All outcomes and evidence requirements must be in accordance with any policies,
procedures, standards, and requirements of the organisation involved, and with the
following:
Children, Young Persons, and their Families Act 1989;
Education Act 1989;
Human Rights Act 1993;
Privacy Act 1993;
Education (Early Childhood Centres) Regulations 1998;
Education (Early Childhood Services) Regulations 2008;
Education (Home-Based Care) Order 1992.

Describe, implement, and demonstrate the Fijian style of learning, and act as a role model

Evidence requirements
2.1
The Fijian style of learning in terms of the customary teaching methods and the
way resources are used is described and implemented in an early childhood
service.
2.2
The Fijian role model is demonstrated in terms of dress, behaviour, and
traditional Fijian ways of doing things in an early childhood service.
