Severe Weather Tornado Touchdowns
The Florida State Emergency Response Team

CURRENT SITUATION:
State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) is
currently at Level 1 (Full) activation with full
ESFs staffing in the State Emergency
Operations Center. There were several
reported tornado touchdowns in Lake, Sumter,
Volusia, and Indian River counties as storms
swept across central Florida early Friday
morning, damaging homes, toppling trees and
overturning trucks on Interstate 4 (I-4).
Additional impacted counties include Seminole
and Marion counties. Powerful winds knocked
down trees and power lines. Forward
Command has been established in Lake
County. Local mutual aid is being provided to
Lake, Sumter and Volusia counties by
neighboring counties – Marion, Seminole and
others.
Rain is expected to return to the impact area
later today with temperatures beginning to fall
thru the late weekend and may reach freezing
temperatures by Monday. State meteorologists are monitoring and will provide updates
regularly.
Officially awaiting a Presidential Declaration.
WEATHER:
Lake County
Today: Scattered rain and thunderstorms before 1pm, then a slight chance of rain. Skies will be
mostly cloudy, with a high near 61. North wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. North wind between 5 and 10 mph.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy through mid morning, then becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 63.
North northeast wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 40 with north northeast wind between 5 and 10
mph.
Volusia County
This Afternoon: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Skies will be mostly cloudy, with a high
near 58. North northwest wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44. North northwest wind between 5 and 10 mph.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy through mid morning, then becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 62.
North northeast winds will be between 10 and 15 mph.
Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 42. North northwest winds will be between 5 and
10 mph.
CONSEQUENCES:
1. Fatalities – There are 13 confirmed fatalities as reported by the State Medical Examiners
Office as of 02/03/07.
2. Boil Water Notices: 3 Mobile Home Parks and the Fairgrounds for Volusia County
(reported on county conference call)
3. Curfews: None (reported on county conference call)
4. Sheltering – 2 shelters in Lake County, 1 shelter in Sumter County, and 2shelters in
Volusia.
5. School and Government closings – The following schools are closed:
Volusia County: Deland Middle School, Deltona Lakes Elementary, and Deland
Campus of Daytona Beach Community College,
Lake County: Villages of Lady Lake Elementary School
6. Power Outages- There are a total of 2,149 outages.
7. Road Closures : The following roads are reported as closed or restricted access:
Volusia County: Mainly in DeLand area (County Road 4112 and East and South SR
15A, West Blue Lake Avenue).

Lake County: Two areas of operation – West side of county in the area of The Villages
from US301 to the western shore of Lake Griffin, numerous homes and commercial
structures damaged, reports of fatalities and injuries; Lake and Marion County Sherriff’s
Offices are flying impact area at this time; East side of county in the vicinity of an area
known as Paisely from the S side of Ocala National Forest to the St. Johns River, County
has lost one of it’s primary radio towers. There are 3 Points of Distribution (PODS)
established.

Volusia County: two major areas of operations – South of Deland to the intersection of
I4 and FL44, unknown number of homes (both manufactured and site built) damaged,
County damage to the fair ground agriculture center & the local health department, which
is a major health care provider; East side of county in the vicinity of SR44 and FL44 w/ 69
homes reported as damaged, no fatalities and only minor injuries reported, dinner cruise
ship reported destroyed.
Power: there are 2,000 persons without power, possibly restored by 2:00PM
Crises Counseling: Teams will arrive on February 5, 2007
Boil Water: 3 Mobile Home Parks and the Fairgrounds

Sumter County: reports 400 to 500 homes with major damage or destroyed in the
vicinity of The Village. Preliminary Damages Assessment teams have been sent out in to
the impacted areas.

Power- Power has been restored except for areas or structures too heavily damaged to
safely reconnect.
STATE ACTIONS:







The SEOC is activated at a Level 1 and is operational 24 hours a day
The State Emergency Response Team is fully staffed
Mobile Command Vehicle (MCV) is operational in Lake County and reducing hrs of
operation to 0700 hrs thru 2200 hrs
Operations and Plans Sections staff are monitoring the current situation and providing
updates as needed
Conference calls with counties conducted daily at 1115 and 1715 hours
SERT briefings are held twice daily at 07300 and 1830 hours
American Red Cross has set up a website for persons and families affected by a disaster:
disastersafe.redcross.org
Resources:
 Trucks of water and ice are enroute to Lake County
 Three Points of Distribution (PODS) packages (Lake County)
 Logistical Staging Area (LSA) site have been identified
