190101- Engineering Drawing Basics (3 Cr.H)
This course covers the fundamentals of engineering drawing, including how to use tools and
materials, how to draw lines, curves, two and three dimensional shapes, and various architectural
drawings. The course includes numerous practical assignments.
190111- Perspective Drawing (3 Cr.H) (Pre-requisite: 190101)
This course shows the student how to draw different types of perspective drawings covering
architectural shapes, exteriors and interiors, and including various lighting and shading techniques.
The course includes practical assignments.
190334- Interior Accessories (3 Cr.H.)
Covers the role played by various accessories such as furniture, textiles, curtains, paintings, art
work, lighting, indoor plants, etc, in the design of private and public interiors. The course includes
practical assignments.
190130- Color Theory & Applications (3Cr.H.)
Covers the physics of color, its psychological and sociological aspects, its symbolism, and its role in
design in general and interior design in particular. The course includes several practical
assignments.
190121- Introduction to Interior design (3 Cr.H.) (Pre-requisite: 190111).
Covers the basic principles and elements of interior design, its tools, methodologies, techniques, its
relationships with the arts and architecture. It includes showing how to solve some basic functional
and aesthetic design problems in practical assignments.
190131- Photography 1 (3 Cr.H.)
Covers the basic essentials of photography, including films, 35.mm.cameras, digital cameras, lenses,
tools, and dark-room techniques. It also deals with composition and lighting, through practical
assignments.
190222- Computer Graphics (3 Cr.H.)
This course aims to familiarize the student with various digital design techniques to produce two and
three dimensional designs by using different software. It includes practical assignments related to
interior design.
190240- Interior Design-Residential (3 Cr.H.) (Pre-requisite: 190121)
Covers residential interior design problems, including house spatial functions, circulation, furniture
layouts, lighting, and accessories. The course includes various practical assignments that require the
production of plans, sections, interior elevations, perspectives, and models.
190201- Free-Hand Drawing (3 Cr.H.)
Covers basic free-hand drawing techniques, materials, and tools. This practical course includes
pencil and ink drawings covering still life, interiors, and outdoor landscapes.
190310-Interior Design Technologies & Materials (3 Cr.H.)
Covers the role of technology and its effects on interior design. It also deals with the physical and
aesthetic properties of various materials such as stones, marble, wood, metals, glass, plastic etc,
and their application techniques in interiors.
190320- Workshop (3 Cr.H.)
This practical course aims to familiarize the student with various machines, tools, and techniques
related to materials used in interior design. It includes assignments to produce full-size and actual
models such as chairs and other interior items.
190120- History of Interior Design (3 Cr.H.)
This theoretical course covers the historical evolution and development of interior design through
various historical periods, including ancient, Middle Ages, Islamic, and Renaissance civilizations.
Special emphasis covers 20th.century theories and movements.
190344- Ergonomics (3.Cr.H.)
This course covers aspects of the measurements of the human body, anatomy, its movements,
proportions, and its relationships to interior design and spatial requirements.
190420- Illustrative Models (3 Cr.H.) (Pre-requisite: 190111).
This practical course covers the study of the relationship between mass and void, the aesthetics of
models, and the various techniques of model-making.
190431- Theory & Methodology of Design (3 Cr.H.)
This course covers the various design theories that evolved after the Industrial Revolution and the
different methodologies adopted. It puts particular emphasis on critical assessment and comparative
studies between traditional and modern approaches to design.
190373- History of Islamic Art (3 Cr.H.)
This theoretical course covers the birth and evolution of Islamic art, and includes the study of
aesthetic principles in art and architecture, decoration, Arabic calligraphy, and various Islamic styles.
190311- Quantity Surveying (3.Cr.H.)
This theoretical course covers the various methods of quantity calculation and cost estimation in
interior design projects, including the costs of design, materials, labor, and supervision. It includes
several practical cost estimating assignments.
190441- Interior Design- Commercial & Hospitality (3 Cr.H.) (Pre-requisite- 190240).
This practical course covers the design of commercial and hospitality buildings such as shops,
department stores, malls, hotels, and tourist facilities. The student is taught how to deal with design
issues related to such large public buildings, including concept drawings, circulation, functional
layouts, plans, sections, elevations, perspectives, and models.
190430- Art in the 20th.Century (3 Cr.H.) (Pre-requisite-190373).
This theoretical course covers the various arts of the 20th century in particular. It emphasizes the
role of various art movements, key figures and their different stylistic approaches, and their impact
on interior design.
190433- Lighting & Acoustics (3 Cr.H.)
This theoretical course covers aspects of natural and artificial lighting design and its impact on
interiors. It also covers the basic principles of acoustical design in theatres, cinema halls, and other
public buildings.
190341- Computer Techniques in Design 1 (3 Cr.H.) (Pre-requisit-190222).
This practical course familiarizes the student with the use of different digital techniques and software
in interior design. It also includes numerous practical assignments.
190333- Technical Studies in English (3 Cr.H.)
This theoretical course aims to increase the student's knowledge on interior design in English. It
covers all essential principles, technical terms, and vocabularies used in the profession.
190301- Painting (3 Cr.H.).
This practical course aims to teach the student how to paint various objects and topics, including the
human figure, through using several compositions, color techniques, and color materials. The course
includes numerous practical assignments.
190472- Psychology & Sociology of Design (3 Cr.H.).
This theoretical course covers aspects of visual perception and how it relates to design. It also
covers the impact of social behavior, values, norms, and traditions on the interior designer and his
relationship to society.
190460- Studies in Interior Design (3 Cr.H.). (Pre-requisite-190441).
This course focuses on the special study that the student is required to prepare for his or her
graduation project. The chosen project will be agreed upon with the tutor. It should cover all aspects
of collecting and analyzing data, studying similar case studies in Jordan and elsewhere, developing
the intellectual arguments for design, and producing a typed and well-illustrated research document.
190461- Graduation Project (3 Cr.H.).
This practical course aims to prepare the student to produce his or her final graduation project
chosen earlier in course 190460. The project should reflect the highest professional standards
possible and should be presented as drawings and as digital drawings to a panel of jury in charge of
assessing the quality of the project.
190210- Color Presentation (3 Cr.H.).
This course covers the role of color in interior design in particular, its aesthetic as well as its physical
and psychological impact on perceiving interiors. It includes various color themes, techniques, and
the use of materials and paints. The course includes several practical assignments.
190230- Arabic and Latin calligraphy (3 Cr.H.).
This practical course shows the student how to employ Arabic and Latin calligraphic techniques in
various situations related to interiors and interior design.
190330- Restoration of Historic Buildings (3.Cr.H.). (Pre-requisite- 190320).
Covers the basic principles and techniques of restoring historic buildings including their interiors. It
includes methods of adapting historic interiors to new uses, upgrading technical services such as
lighting and air conditioning, etc.
190241- History of Art & Architecture 1 (3 Cr.H.).
Covers the study of the most outstanding qualities of art, interiors, and architecture of ancient
civilizations starting from Mesopotamian to, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and ending with Byzantine.
190242- History of art & Architecture 2 (3 Cr.H. ). (Pre-requisite-190241).
Covers the study of the art, interiors, and architecture of Medieval, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque,
and Rococo periods and up to the Industrial Revolution in Europe.
190331- Special Studies in Interior Design. (3 Cr.H.).
This theoretical and seminar-based course covers certain major and critical issues in interior design.
Topics will be selected by the students under the supervision of the tutor.
190471- Environmental Design (3 Cr.H).
This theoretical course covers basic aspects of environmental design and their impact on interiors. It
includes the concept of green architecture and design, sustainable design, conserving energy in
interiors, the use of environmentally friendly materials and technologies etc.
190250- Advertising Art & Public Relations- (3 Cr.H.).
This course aims to familiarize the student with the art of advertising, interior graphics and public
relations with particular emphasis on the profession of interior design.
190443- Computer animated Drawings. (3 Cr.H.).
This practical course aims to teach the student how to produce animated drawings through proposed
interiors to show the client by using various digital techniques and software.
190442- Computer Techniques in design 2 (3Cr.H.). (Pre-requisite-190222).
This practical course is a further continuation of course 190222. It aims to teach the student how to
use various digital techniques and software to produce more advanced interior drawings and threedimensional presentations.
190473- History of World Art (3 Cr.H.).
This theoretical course covers the birth and evolution of art in the major regions of the world. It
includes the most significant artists, art schools, movements, and their impact on interior design.
Non Credit- Practical Training.
The student is required after completing 90 credit hours, as part of the graduation conditions, to
work as a trainee for no less than 200 hours in an accredited interior design office in Jordan. Non
Jordanian students may train at offices in their own country if conditions permit. A certified and
detailed document on this training is required.
