EROSION What is Erosion? The gradual wearing away of land surface materials, especially rocks, sediments, and soils by the action of water, wind, or a glacier. Usually erosion also involves the transport of eroded material from one place to another, as from the top of a mountain to an adjacent valley, or from the upstream portion of a river to the downstream portion. What are the Different Types of Erosion? There are some types of erosion and here is a list of different types of erosion: Water Erosion, Wind Erosion, Glacier Erosion, Sea Erosion, Soil Erosion, Water Erosion: Water erosion happens from the chemicals in the water, and the force of the flow of water in the river. There are many chemicals in the water of a river, Lake ECT… and those chemicals can break down certain rocks, such as limestone or chalk. Wind Erosion Though it may be small where you live, can take quite a toll on areas of the world covered in desert. Wind erosion is simple... light objects, such as rocks and pebbles are carried by the wind and can hit landforms, Glacier Erosion Ice erosion, besides that of hail, comes mostly in the form of glacier erosion. The more sediment that’s picked up, the glacier the force of erosion. Sea Erosion Erosion in the sea can occurs. The salts and other chemicals can erode weak rocks on the coast. Waves hitting against the shore can create air pressure inside cracked rocks or mud. Soil Erosion Soil Erosion affects farmers the most. Flooding, wind ECT. These things can carry the topsoil away from the farms. Problems with Hnausa Flooding Here is a true story about how a family flooded in Hnausa. There was a culvert to the north and it there is a big ditch that lets a lot of water flow out of it into the lake. Over the time there was erosion at this location and the culvert broke and did not let water go through. There was a point when the water was high enough in the ditch it would leak out. At the time the waves were washing in to the opened ditch and brought more water in. So the water cannot exit. After a while the water got too high it flooded a parking lot over and flood out this family. THANK YOU FOR STOPPING AND READING MY ARTICLE ON EROSION Michael Peterson
