Dear Colleague,
I am writing to let you know about two intensive language courses for teachers and TAs
taking place in 2014:
Paris - Wednesday 12th February (PM) to Wednesday 19th February 2014
Madrid - Thursday 3rd April to Thursday 10th April 2014
Teachers and teaching assistants can apply for a Comenius EU grant to attend one of
these courses to improve their language skills and cultural knowledge in a practical and
engaging way. The visit will have two strands of activity: intensive French or Spanish
language and culture and a two-day placement in a Paris or Madrid school. The
placements will be arranged by me, the course coordinator, Sally Ann Panter, of Love
Languages Europe Ltd in liaison with the Academie de Paris and the Comunidad de
Madrid.
Funding
Successful participants will receive a Comenius grant of just over 2000 Euros, which
will cover travel to and from the location, training course fees, accommodation, meals

and day to day expenses. The French course will start on Wednesday 12 th February in
the evening and continue till the Wednesday of the Half term holiday. The Spanish
course will commence on the Thursday before the start of the Easter holidays. Please
note that a maximum of two applications per school is allowed and the additional
funding for supply cover that the TDA used to provide is no longer available.
Information and Application Form meeting
There will therefore be a session for teachers in Wandsworth at Fircroft Primary
School, Fircroft Rd, London SW17 7PP from 4.30-6.00 pm on Wednesday 19th
June to help staff complete the application form. This session is free but numbers are
limited so please contact me, the course coordinator beforehand at
info@lovelanguages.eu on 07968 236 983 to receive information and book a place at a
computer.
This is a really exciting opportunity that is guaranteed to enthuse teachers and teaching
assistants and build up their linguistic confidence and cultural knowledge. Comenius
grant funding will end in April 2014 so this round of applications is for the final deadline,
which is at the beginning of September. We do not yet know if teachers will be able to
apply for individual CPD grants in future as part of the new EU programme that is
replacing Comenius.
Host a Paris teacher?
There will also be two reciprocal visits for teachers from Paris and Madrid taking place
in London, from 7th -14th July 2013 and then again from 19th-25th April 2014. One
Sixth Form (Lycée) English teacher from Paris with a grant to come to London this July
needs a placement school to visit on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th July 2013. If you
would be interested in hosting this teacher in your school for 2 days and potentially
setting up a link with a partner school in Paris straight away please contact me as soon
as possible. I do hope you are able to promote this programme amongst your staff and
take advantage of this opportunity in 2014.
