Became, after studies at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, MD in 1975. Full time clinician 1975 - 1980 at the Department of Internal Medicine, Nacka Hospital, 1980 - 1982 at the Department of Clinical Physiology, Södersjukhuset, and 1982 - 1985 at the Department of Pulmonary Medicine, Karolinska Hospital, Stockholm. 1985 employed at the the National Institute for Working Life and 1999 head of the Respiratory Health and Climate Program, National Institute for Working Life. From 2002 head of the Unit of Lung and Allergy Research, The National Institute of Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institutet. Between 1985 and 2002 part-time (20%) clinical work at the Department of Respiratory Medicine, Karolinska University Hospital, Solna. Since 2003 parttime clinical work at the Department of Respiratory Medicine, Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge. Academic positions: Defended the thesis "Studies of sympatho-adrenal reactivity and adrenoceptor function in bronchial asthma" in 1985 and became Associate Professor (docent) of Respiratory Medicine at the Karolinska Institutet in 1988. Have participated in the production of education material concerning respiratory medicine, predominantly obstructive airways diseases and arranged a number of postgraduate courses and conferences on asthma and COPD in Sweden. Research topics: Airway inflammation following inhalation of organic dust, pulmonary pharmacology, and clinical asthma and COPD research. Another field of interest is allergen exposure and health effects in relation to exposure. The reference list contains more than 350 articles of which approximately 125 are original papers in peer reviewed journals and more than 80 reviews. Kjell Larsson has, as main supervisor, led 8 PhD students and as co-tutor led 3 PhD students to dissertation and is at present main supervisor for 4 and co-tutor for 4 PhD students.
