Dear Mayor, since several months we follow up what happens in Romania with the stray dogs full of cares. Again we are upset to learn that now you, too, have decided to kill the dogs in the Public Shelter of Braila. And you do this after a long period of cooperation with Dr Rudolf Hofmann who made a lot of efforts to improve the conditions of the shelter and the medical treatment including neutering of the dogs. He and many others tried to find places and homes for the dogs with remarkable success. That cannot be in vain! We are deeply disappointed by your sudden turnaround. Many associations of animal welfare in Europe give financial support to castrate stray dogs in order to help you solving the problem of overpopulation of the dogs. This method is the only one that is effective. But the Cities must tolerate it for a certain time. That cannot be too complicated and demanding to understand! Now we recognize that we cannot rely on your promise some days ago. What a disappointment and waste of money! How can we change your mind again? With kind regards Dr. Helga Körnig Dr. Helga Körnig Internationaler Tierschutzverein Grenzenlos e.V. www.itvgrenzenlos.de e-mail: itvgrenzenlos@web.de Tel.: 05071 -4126 Dear Madam / Sir, We have received your concern message about the commencement of the euthanasia of stray dogs from the streets of Braila. At this time, in the two public shelters, Lacu Sarat and Unirea, are accommodated a total of 700 stray dogs and 162 of them are remotely adopted. On Braila`s streets are many stray dogs and for them we have hundreds of requests for capturing, especially dogs around schools, hospitals, public markets and we are unable to solve these demands because, in shelters there are no longer accommodation spaces under the provisions relating to animal welfare. As you know, Braila Hall has a partnership with Romanian Rescue Dog Association, since May 2014 for the protection of stray dogs, dropout prevention for dogs with owners, organizing national and international adoptions and improving the quality of life of dogs in shelters Braila. On the basis of Partnership Saturday, 25/10/2014, we met at Braila to find a solution to reduce the number of stray dogs from the streets, their accommodation in the two public shelters, the increase of the number of adoptions and postponement as much as possible for euthanasia of dogs of the procedure adopted. The Hall Braila forward to Dog Rescue Romanian partner, a list of dogs that are proposed for adoption immediately, as they are in our shelters for long time. For them, it requires a special effort on your part to take over their shelters because these dogs have been nominated numerous times for adoption and have been adopted so far. Meanwhile, near public shelter in Lacu Sarat, Braila Hall provides land that Romanian Rescue Dog Association will arrange accommodation spaces for real dogs adopted which, up to the takeover by the adopter will be cared for at the expense of the Association. We do know that so far Town Hall Braila and Rescue Dog Association Romanian has conducted three sterilization campaigns for common breed dogs with owners, dogs taken from the of streets Braila or adopted during sterilization campaigns. Thus, these campaigns have sterilized 500 dogs in Braila. The next campaign will take place this November 2014, the citizens of Braila being more interested in sterilizing their dogs and considering that up to January 1, 2015 are required to sterilize and record them. The same time together with the Romanian Rescue Dog are trying to find solutions for sterilization without to bring them in public shelters. When Romanian Rescue Dog Association will have the resources to perform these sterilizations, we will publish sterilization procedure and accountability of animal lovers in Braila. We think so, together, we can reduce the number of dogs from the streets of Braila that they will be adopted real, so taken from shelters and we have to apply the procedure of euthanasia. Now, we are waiting YOU by our side - Town Hall Braila and Romanian Rescue Dog! Mayor, PhD. Eng. Aurel Gabriel SIMIONESCU Dr. Ing. Aurel Gabriel Simionescu Primarul Municipiului Braila
