The GMA chapter was called to provide tour assistance and guidance for a delegation of academic librarians from Yunnan Province of China, who would visit different cities of the U.S. in the second half of 2014, including Washington, DC. Shanyun Zhang from The Catholic University of America, Yuan Yao from The Library of Congress, Ding Ye from Georgetown University, and Andrew Lee from George Mason University participated in the planning and guidance of the visits of the delegation to these institutions. Nevertheless, the Chinese delegation did not come to Washington, DC area as originally planned. 2. Hong Miao and Andrew Lee were selected as panel speakers at the 2014 China Library Annual Conference in October 2014. Hong Miao's presentation was "New space and new experience: From library to learning commons." Andrew Lee's presentation was "Anthropological approach to librarianship: Ethnographic methods used in library research." 3. The call of nominations of the GMA vice president/president-elect of 20152016 was sent to the members of the chapter. Hong Wu was nominated and then elected as the incoming president of GMA chapter of 2015-2016. Hong Wu is the Director of Library and Information Services of J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in Virginia. 4. GMA chapter’s website was updated. It is maintained regularly. The link to the new site is: http://gma.chapters.cala-web.org 5. On April 10th, 2015, three CALA-GMA board members, Andrew Lee, Raymond Wang and Hong Wu, attended the 4th US-China Cultural Forum cohosted by the US National Endowment for Humanities and the Ministry of Culture of China, held in Washington DC. The members enjoyed the presentations and the exchange of ideas with scholars from both countries on the potential of international collaboration to bridge cultures through humanities research and innovation. They also took the opportunity to reach out to area colleagues and invited them to join CALA. In addition, they discussed the future plan for GMA chapter and planed to host an Asian American Library Leadership Roundtable on May 21st, 2015 in Baltimore, MD. 6. On May 21, 2005 GMA chapter held a professional development event at the Community College of Baltimore County. We invited Dr. Binh P. Le to present his research on leadership of Asian American librarians. Dr. Le is the Associate Librarian at the Pennsylvania State University. He has published widely in academic librarianship, including books, book chapters, and journal articles. In the roundtable meeting Dr. Le’s presented various issues and challenges that Asian American librarians face when they seek and acquire leadership positions in libraries. He used a plenty of statistical data collected from official agencies, organizations, and scholarly research to support his arguments and viewpoints. His presentation was insightful and eye-opening. The participants of the roundtable presented their own insights in these issues in the discussion. Hong Wu of J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College will be presenting at the poster session at the upcoming CALA Annual Conference in June 2015. Her poster is Impacting Information Literacy through Alignment, Resources, and Assessment http://libguides.reynolds.edu/impactingIL. 8. Hong Wu organized the 1st Student Expo in April 2015 at Reynolds Library of J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. A total of 42 pieces/projects were received. Over 200 students, faculty and the community members attended the event. The purpose of the program is to showcase student work, celebrate student accomplishment and inspire the Reynolds community. To build a long lasting impact, the library is now in the process of creating a digital repository at http://libguides.reynolds.edu/studentexpo2015. 9. Reynolds Library of J. J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College has sponsored multiple outreach efforts for the local high schools in our service area. 150 high school students from Reynolds Advance College Academies participated in the Library Scavenger Hunt, a team orientation activity using QR codes and iPads. In addition, librarians also led multiple orientation sessions for 50 of the Advance College Academy parents. In the fall, librarians reached approximately 400 college-bound seniors at a local high school with the information session “College Libraries and Research: Top 10 Things to Expect.” Librarian Denise Woetzel co- presented the session “Bridging the Gap: Helping Students Transition to College” with a high school librarian at the Virginia Association of School Librarians (VaASL) Spring Regional Conference. Recently, a group of Reynolds Librarians joined a panel discussion with other college librarians at a Henrico Public School librarians meeting; this has led to discussion and more planned collaborations with the local high schools. 10. Anlin Yang, Library Technician/Contractor of the National Library of Medicine, published an article in Journal of Society for Chinese Studies Librarians. The article’s title is "Introduction of the Sweet Potato into China" 11. Raymond Wang, Associate Professor of Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) Catonsville Library, has been engaging K12 public school librarians to collaboratively promote information literacy learning. The joint program between the instruction librarians at CCBC and the media specialists at Baltimore County Public Schools has been ongoing successfully for a number of years. To report the achievement of this joint program, Raymond and his colleagues co-presented “From Advanced Placement to Parallel Enrollment: How A High School Media Specialist Collaborates with A Community College Instruction Librarian on A Student Research Project in An Honor’s History Class” at the annual conference of Maryland Association of School Librarians. 12. Zehao Zhou, Information Services Librarian and Supervisor of Archives of and Special Collections at the Schmidt Library of York College of Pennsylvania, published an article “Refusing Amnesia: How a Fight to Preserve History Birthed an Archival Milestone,” Archival Outlook (May/June, 2015). Zehao also gave the following posters in professional conferences: o “Academic Librarians as Content Creators and Defenders of Academic Freedom,” at ACRL 2015 Conference, Portland, Oregon. o “Preserving Historical Memory and Protecting Academic Freedom: The Advent of the First Primary Source Database on PRC History,” Joint Meeting of Council of State Archivists, National Association of Government Archives & Records Administration, and the Society of American Archivists, Washington, D.C., 2014
