October Newsletter
Dear Families, Volunteers & Friends,
Welcome to the new tutoring year! We are off
to a fantastic start with great attendance and
enthusiasm!
Each month you will receive this newsletter
updating you about events, activities and
highlights at Tutoring Chicago.
Please take a few minutes to read through
and keep yourself informed. We are looking
forward to a terrific 2014-2015 school year!
Literacy Intensive Tutoring (LIT)
Kicks Off October 27th
Children, parents and tutors who have been
accepted into the LIT program will start with
an orientation along with a meet and greet on
Monday, October 27 at 6pm in Room 351 at
St. Vincent de Paul Center. All people involved
with LIT are expected to attend.
LIT tutoring then runs on Mondays and
Tuesdays on the 2nd floor starting October
28th.
New Tutors and New Students
Welcome
A warm welcome to the many new students
and tutors that have joined us this year.
Tutoring Chicago Kids are SMART!!
Tutoring Chicago is excited to announce our
SMART curriculum focus. Students in this
program work on Social Skills, Math,
Attitude/Attendance, Reading and Technology.
Kids are tested in each of these areas at least
twice a year. We offer a variety of activities,
resources and support to our students and tutors
for each SMART category.
SMART testing begins this week in the
classrooms.
Classroom Families
Tutoring Chicago students and tutors are each
members of their classroom families. Our
families will have monthly meetings to learn
more about each other and about special
programming at tutoring.
Our first classroom family meetings are
scheduled for November 3-5 from 6:156:25pm.
If you know of any children who could benefit
from Tutoring Chicago, we have limited
openings at our Lincoln Park site. Our Logan
Square site is full at this time.
More tutors are always needed, especially at
our Logan Square site. Tutors, please help
spread the word and send new volunteers to
join us.
Over 150 students are registered in Logan
Square. However we need about 30 more
tutors. Tell your friends!!!
Meet other Tutors!
Tutors and friends, please join us for Happy
Hour on Thursday, October 9th. This month's
happy hour will be held at Joe's on Weed
street from 6-8pm. Suggestions on where
you'd like to have next month's happy hour?

Halloween at TC
The week of October 27-29 students may wear their
costumes to tutoring if they choose.
We will have a spooky story writing contest along
with some sweet treats!
