the community, so much so, that Barkers road was originally named Beehive road, after the pub, named in-turn after the town of Beehive in Ireland where the first publican William Colvin was born. The current building has stood proudly in its current location since 1882 where the original interiors still feature today. Throughout the generations The Beehive has changed much but has always remained a much loved local meeting place. The Beehive has a long tradition of local ownership, and as a local family, we intend to return the venue to its origins of being a family friendly, food focused local public house. With an eye on the tradition, history and place the iconic Beehive Hotel has played in the community for 160 years, our focus for the future is to provide quality, value and produce driven menus paired to the best wines of Australia and the world with good, old fashioned hospitality and customer service. The pub has continually evolved over the last 16 decades, reflecting both the changing of the times and demographic of Hawthorn and Kew. We now offer a diverse range of spaces and dining options from casual and relaxed in the Bar and Beer Garden, to more attentive service and a separate seafood focused menu in the Dining Room. The Beehive Hotel has 5 spaces to host your next function, with areas to suit small groups of up to 20, right up to whole venue take-overs for up to 300 people. The latest additions to the venue are our Winestore and The Deck. The Winestore and bottleshop showcases a hand-selected choice of over 100 wines from some of Australia’s best producers and boutique small production wines from the world over. Regular wine tastings and degustation dinners give you an opportunity to meet the winemakers and taste a selection of the wines accompanied by matched menus. The Deck is an intimate enclosed space on the first floor surrounded by natural timbers and plants, suitable for dining and canapé events for up to 25. It takes advantage of its elevated position to give a commanding view of the tree-tops and skyline of West Hawthorn. Construction on a first floor Private Dining Room and a smaller Boardroom will begin early in 2015 with completion expected by Autumn 2015.
