I want to bring a contest currently being run out of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum in Regina to your
attention and encourage your school and students to take part in the fun and the challenge.
We have been notified that our fossil has been nominated as a candidate in the contest to name the Provincial
Fossil of Saskatchewan, #Fossil4SK.
Related to this, the Grade seven students in the province are being challenged to take part in a video contest
(deadline March 21) to aid publicity for the on-line voting to take place in the spring.
Our fossil is the Herschel Short-necked Plesiosaur Dolichorhynchops herschelensis. We would like to offer any
co-operation such as information, pictures and other materials you would deem useful/necessary should you
decide that you would like to participate in the contest. We know it will prove important to Ancient Echoes to
find ways to support our fossil and Centre, and we would benefit from publicity from the competition.
I will include the website links to the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, the contest and other information for
your convenience:

Ancient Echoes website is: http://www.ancientechoes.ca or see us on Facebook.
Our email is ancientechoes@sasktel.net.
Here is another address that you might find interesting to copy and paste in your browser…the paleontologists
working at Herschel in 2014…they returned in 2015 also!

I hope you will contact me and/or email the Interpretive Centre in the near future with your interest.
It may be of interest to others to note that the woolly mammoth fossil at Kyle, SK has also been
nominated…folks near there may also wish to support their local entry rather than our plesiosaur! We do want
to encourage the participation of as many youngsters as possible.
Best regards,
Carmel Waddington
