We are proud to work with your school on various projects, and especially in the fall when we
present your school’s 3rd graders with dictionaries. As you know, this past year we initiated the
Rotary Club of West Palm Beach Student Essay Contest, which asked third graders who received
dictionaries to submit an essay on one of two topics: The 4 Way Test of Rotary or What the
Dictionary Means to Me. Attached is a copy of the essay contest rules for this past year.
We received many excellent essays, and it was a difficult selection process. The winners for our
first year are:

The winning students will present their essay and receive their gift card at our May 20th
luncheon meeting. Their teachers will also receive their gift card for the classroom at that time.
Although a student from your school was not selected this year, we want to commend your
teachers and students who submitted essays and hope that next year you will once again
encourage your students and their teachers to submit essays.
Again, thank you for working collaboratively with us; not only on the dictionary distribution
project and essay contest, but also the principal grants, bike project and holiday gift basket
program. The Rotary Club of West Palm Beach is grateful for this collaboration and values the
work our local schools are doing to help children excel and succeed.
