Minutes of CYO General Board Meeting November 12, 2012 Attendees: George Downs, Tom Farrell, Donna Foster, Brian Joslin, Margie Henry, Pat Laphen, Ray Massi, Jennifer Mathes, Mike Mattise, , Bill McDevitt, Mark McPeak, Art Tarquini, and Coaches: Ken Lain, Dan Mostardi, Marisa Palermo, Paul Stearns, (sent his written update), Annie Till, Meeting began with a prayer Minutes reviewed and approved by Donna Foster *Action steps are highlighted. 1. Treasurer’s Report: Ray Massi a. CYO Bank account is higher than Ray can ever remember b. Encourage coaches to collect fees 2. President’s Report: George Downs a. b. c. d. We received many nice comments about Homecoming Great weather, lots of people, lots of energy Thank you to all involved. It was a great success! The golf tournament made over $13,000 3. Fall Athletic Director: Bob Rafferty- (Not present) e. We’re ready for the Turkey Bowl f. Arrangements are set 4. Football: Eddie Graham (Varsity and JV) – (Not present) 3. Varsity Field Hockey: Donna Foster a. b. c. d. e. f. g. Season is over Played well against St. Bernies. Lost in playoffs Uniforms are all in Need to check on numbers of uniforms. Tom has new uniforms Art will check on numbers Art will take down soccer and field hockey nets 8. JV Field Hockey: Kathy Kamper (Unable to attend) 9. Cross Country- Paul Stearns (sent notes) a. All uniforms have been collected and stored for the season b. Championship Meet Results: Philadelphia i. Almost everyone improved their times on Championship Day ii. Barely got the meet in due to Sandy iii. Sub-novice group had to run in the rain iv. Six sub-novices won medals v. One cadet girl received a medal vi. Cross Country party was held at Stearns’ home and everyone had a great time vii. Jr. Olympics Post Season Competition was in Dover, Delaware viii. Erin Mongeluzi competed in trials and qualified to compete at Nationals at Indiana State University on Sat., December 1st 4. Volleyball – Ken Gasser- (not present) 5. Varsity Soccer: Jules Kamper (not present) 6. JV Soccer: Tom Farrell a. The season went 6, 3, 1 b. Playoffs vs. St. Bernies, we lost c. Need to order a dozen or half dozen of uniforms 10. Flag Football – Ken Lain a. b. c. d. e. f. All paid up Most of the flag football stuff is back Lost a lot of flags due to breaking Lost many footballs even though they were marked SAS There were 70 kids. Six teams Ken will check on supplies 10. Winter Athletic Director: Jennifer Mathes a. Jen read a few sentences from the CYO manual to discuss and define CYO sports and our goals. (See Board Minutes for more info 11. Dan Mostardi- Varsity Boys Coach a. There were 4 tryouts b. There are 8 eighth graders and five 7th graders on the team c. They will do all regular tournaments d. Suggestion to post tryouts for A team tryouts and B team tryouts e. We need to come up with rules for tryouts 12. Bill McDevitt- JV Boys Coach a. There were 57 boys b. Bill got the team to 22, then had 2 more tryouts. c. Bill will probably keep 13 d. At the time of this meeting, team was not announced e. There was a discussion of having a “stronger” B team to improve fundamentals and be semi-competitive and the rest intramurals f. Or… there could be 1 competitive B team and 2 less competitive B teams g. Had a parent meeting to describe “A” philosophy h. Dan Mostardi and Annie Till agree with that “A” philosophy as well. 13. Chris Gardler- Girls Varsity Coach (not present) a. There are 3 eighth graders and nine 7th graders 15. Annie Till- JV Girls Coach a. There were three tryouts b. There are 8 sixth graders, 5 fifth graders 16. George Downs – High School Boys CYO a. There are 19 guys on a team b. JV – There are 12-15- Mike DeJesse may coach. 17. Intramural Girls a. Looking for someone to coach b. 36 signed up 18. Cheerleading –Marisa Palermo a. b. c. d. There are no cuts The rule if full commitment There are 27 girls Three are on another cheerleading team 12. Service Project – Tom Farrell (see board minutes) 13. Spring Athletic Director: Mike Mattise a. There isn’t someone to set up CYO Lacrosse, so there most likely will not be a sanctioned CYO lacrosse team b. It will be finalized at a December meeting c. Waiting for dates from Nell 14. Technology Report- Pat Reger (not present) 15. Coaches’ Certifications: Mark McPeak (nothing to report) 7. Ended Meeting with a prayer 8. Next Board Meeting: Monday, December 10th 9.
