Title: Geometry

Course Description:

Geometry is a course designed for the academic student that covers theory as well as application. Algebra 1 skills are reinforced with application involving both linear and quadratic relationships. In Geometry students develop an understanding of the structure and concepts of

Euclidean plane geometry, using algebra to interpret and apply geometric relationships.

This course makes geometry accessible to a wide range of students without sacrificing content and challenge for students in preparation for subsequent mathematics courses and standardized testing. Throughout this course students establish the tools of geometry, methods of reasoning, use various types of measurement, complete constructions, and use both handson and technology instruments. Properties and applications of lines, triangles, quadrilaterals, solid figures, similarity, right triangle trigonometry, and circles are some of the topics covered in this comprehensive course.

Prerequisites: Students must have completed Algebra1 and 2 successfully

Length of Course: 1 year

Course Standards:

This course is designed to prepare each student for the Keystone Geometry Test that was projected to be given at the end of the Geometry course and adhere to the Pennsylvania state standards for Geometry.

Students should expect to discover, learn and apply Geometry using real world examples. Students will make connections between previous mathematics courses and plane geometry. When this course is successfully complete, students will move on to

Pre-Calculus.

Throughout the course, students will be assessed in the following areas:

Way Back Wednesday – weekly quizzes

In class exams, take home assessments, and online exams

Computer projects (Geometer’s Sketchpad)

Classroom Expectations (attendance & behavior):

Students are required to report to class on time with required materials.

Students are to follow the school policies for attendance and behavior.

 Students are responsible for all missed notes, assignments, and tests.

 Students are expected to keep an organized notebook with a ruler and a protractor.

 Students are required to participate positively during class on a daily basis.

Homework Procedure:

Homework must be totally completed by the beginning of the class which it is due.

Homework must be done in pencil with a straight edge when necessary.
