Summer reading requirements for each incoming sixth grader:
Years of Dust: the Story of the Dust Bowl by Albert Marrin
For any student meeting the qualifications for participation in Academic
Scholars courses, they would need to also read:
Taking Sides by Gary Soto
*If you would like to pre-order your student’s copies through the school, tax exempt, please
detach at the bottom and return your payment to Hillcrest Middle School to the attention of
Carrie Jo Powell. These books will be delivered to your child at school before summer break.
*All students are encouraged to read both books this summer.
*All students should complete their Major Works Data Sheet (MWDS) for the required
reading. These will be due the second Friday after the beginning of the school term.
