Seminars in Ignatian Leadership: A Program to Prepare Leaders for the Jesuit School of the Future The Jesuit Schools Network Seminars in Ignatian Leadership is a unique program to develop leaders for the Jesuit school of the future. The program consists of a three-year cycle with two seminar sessions per year that explores the best of leadership theory and practice from the dynamic worldview of Ignatian spirituality, with specific application to the apostolate of Jesuit secondary education. The program is open to people working in the apostolate of Jesuit secondary and pre-secondary education who desire to enhance their roles in the ministry of teaching through outstanding leadership and service as Ignatian educators, whether in the capacity of faculty members, department chairs, program directors or high school administrators. Their participation requires the nomination and recommendation from their president or principal. The overall program has been designed with adult learning theory specifically in mind. Every effort is made throughout the Seminars to incorporate approaches that respect the learning style preferences of participants. Above all else, the program attempts to model Ignatian Pedagogy by engaging Seminar participants in a continual interplay of experience, reflection and action. Each of the three Seminars develops in detail a different but related theme of Ignatian leadership. Each year, each Seminar Cohort meets for two sessions of approximately 3½ days in length (usually starting Monday evening and concluding Friday late morning). The first session meets in October; the second session meets in February. Applicants accepted into a Seminar will be expected to do some preparatory work prior to each session. During the months between the two sessions there will be backhome projects and follow-up exercises for participants to complete. From Our Graduates “the experience of the Seminars has sparked an authentic sense of magis" within me in terms of teaching and leadership…” "The JSN Seminars in Ignatian Leadership have historically been the number one professional development tool we offer teachers as leaders. With a decline in actual Jesuit presence in our building and filling a need for visionary, forward-thinking approaches to creatively solving today’s secondary educational challenges, the Seminars have inspired many of our faculty to learn and live the Ignatian charism." “The spiritual pieces that accompanied many of the "education" topics, along with the personality profiles and tests that we completed helped me to understand more about who I am and who I want to be.” “The interaction with educators from across the country was invaluable. I found the companionship to be energizing and inspiring.” Three Year Seminar Themes and Content Seminar Year 1: Ignatian Leadership with Apostolic Vision October: Ignatian Leadership and Current Theory; Qualities of a Leader; Role of Vision for Leadership; Personality Preferences and Leadership; Dynamics of Building Trust; Handling Criticism and Maintaining Personal Excellence.
