ORGANIZATIONAL TRAINING
Responsible Project Manager (RPM) Certification
Training for new and existing RPMs and other project managers
WHAT IS RPM CERTIFICATION
The RPM Certification has been created by PATH to ensure
that all new and newly promoted RPMs have a consistent
orientation and introductory training experience. The
certification consists of two parts; two online orientation
courses and two in-person classes. The entire certification is
intended for new RPMs or other staff within the
organization that manages projects but do not the RPM
designation.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND RPM CERTIFCATION
All new RPMs should complete their certification within
their first six months of employment with PATH whenever
possible.
Online courses - The online orientation courses are
available through PATHwise and are open to all PATH staff
interested in learning more about the RPM role and
responsibilities. It is required of all staff completing the full
RPM Certification. The courses can be requested either by
the staff member or his or her performance leader.
In-person classes – Additional staff may also attend the inperson classes when extra space is available. Performance
Leader approval is required prior to registering. Any travel
required to attend the classes must be provided by the
program directly or through the training reserve fund.
Exceptions also require HR approval.
ONLINE ORIENTATION COURSES
The orientation program gives new RPMs basic information
required to get oriented to PATH and their projects and
prepare for the in-person class. It is intended to be
completed in the employee’s first 30-90 days. The online
lessons include:

RPM Course One – Finding Your Way: Understanding
the RPM Role at PATH

RPM Course Two – Financial and Subagreement
Monitoring for RPMs at PATH

Harvard ManageMentor v10 - Team Leadership (high
bandwidth) - or - Harvard ManageMentor - Leading a
Team (low band-width)
IN-PERSON RPM BASICS AND LEADING TEAMS AT PATH
CLASSES
The in-person RPM training is divided into two one-day
classes: RPM Basics and Leading Teams at PATH.
RPM Basics provides an overview of the unique PATH
specific roles and responsibilities of the RPM throughout
the project life cycle from pre-proposal to project close-out.
The course also provides hands on experience with unique
PATH project and financial tracking tools that help RPMs
stay on track and on budget.
Leading Teams at PATH explores key concepts that team
leaders must understand to be successful. The class uses a
series of activities to illustrate and explore the challenges of
teamwork in a safe learning environment.
