ORGANIZATIONAL TRAINING Responsible Project Manager (RPM) Certification Training for new and existing RPMs and other project managers WHAT IS RPM CERTIFICATION The RPM Certification has been created by PATH to ensure that all new and newly promoted RPMs have a consistent orientation and introductory training experience. The certification consists of two parts; two online orientation courses and two in-person classes. The entire certification is intended for new RPMs or other staff within the organization that manages projects but do not the RPM designation. WHO SHOULD ATTEND RPM CERTIFCATION All new RPMs should complete their certification within their first six months of employment with PATH whenever possible. Online courses - The online orientation courses are available through PATHwise and are open to all PATH staff interested in learning more about the RPM role and responsibilities. It is required of all staff completing the full RPM Certification. The courses can be requested either by the staff member or his or her performance leader. In-person classes – Additional staff may also attend the inperson classes when extra space is available. Performance Leader approval is required prior to registering. Any travel required to attend the classes must be provided by the program directly or through the training reserve fund. Exceptions also require HR approval. ONLINE ORIENTATION COURSES The orientation program gives new RPMs basic information required to get oriented to PATH and their projects and prepare for the in-person class. It is intended to be completed in the employee’s first 30-90 days. The online lessons include: RPM Course One – Finding Your Way: Understanding the RPM Role at PATH RPM Course Two – Financial and Subagreement Monitoring for RPMs at PATH Harvard ManageMentor v10 - Team Leadership (high bandwidth) - or - Harvard ManageMentor - Leading a Team (low band-width) IN-PERSON RPM BASICS AND LEADING TEAMS AT PATH CLASSES The in-person RPM training is divided into two one-day classes: RPM Basics and Leading Teams at PATH. RPM Basics provides an overview of the unique PATH specific roles and responsibilities of the RPM throughout the project life cycle from pre-proposal to project close-out. The course also provides hands on experience with unique PATH project and financial tracking tools that help RPMs stay on track and on budget. Leading Teams at PATH explores key concepts that team leaders must understand to be successful. The class uses a series of activities to illustrate and explore the challenges of teamwork in a safe learning environment.
