Divine appointments take place when we have eyes
to see God at work.
3 Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to
receive alms. 4 And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and
said, “Look at us.”
Acts 3:1-10
Divine Appointments
Divine appointments take place in the everyday and
the mundane.
1 Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of
prayer, the ninth hour. [a] 2 And a man lame from birth was being
carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called
the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple.
Text Message:
o What takes place is absolutely miraculous and amazing, yet
notice how it was set up in the ordinary course of life:
1) Peter and John are going up to the temple at the same
time they had many times before.
2) It is a scheduled hour for prayer.
3) No doubt they are preparing themselves to pray.
4) The lame man was being laid daily at the Beautiful Gate!
o Is it not possible that they repeated this same routine every
day, as did the lame beggar?
o Little did they all know something truly beautiful would
happen at the Beautiful Gate!
o Yet what started out as everyday and mundane on earth was
set up as a divine appointment!
o How might this week be different if you approached it with an
attitude of expectation in the ordinary of life?
Text Message:
o Look at what the beggar thought he needed. There are
people around you who don’t know what they really need!
o Most people think not too far off from this man, “If I only had
a little more money.”
o Underline the phrase, “directed his gaze.”
o Interestingly, the verb that is used here appears 10 of its 14
times in the book of Acts, and literally means, “I am not
stretching.”
o In other words, instead of a panoramic view, the word
literally refers to a laser-like focus!
o It’s as if Peter and John are seeing something for the firsttime in surroundings they’ve seen numerous times!
o Will you be so bold as to ask God to give you new eyes for
your familiar surroundings?
Divine appointments result in wonder and
amazement of God.
10b And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had
happened to him.
Text:
o Allow the two words that describe the reaction of the people
to sink into you heart!
o When was the last time these two words described your
response to the work of God?
o Wonder and amazement await those willing to look with new
eyes in the ordinary and everyday, and be used by God!
o May we long to be a participant in God’s wonder and
amazement!
o Isn’t it time you (we) get back to what Jesus said to do?
You are now entering your mission field!
Divine appointments take place when we have eyes
to see God at work.
