STAR funding is available on a first-come, first served basis. 4. Planning Requirements College planning is done in the context of overall university planning. This year the college has been asked to focus on three main areas: Student Success, Assessment, and Research. This information will be included as part of the Dean/College annual plan that is submitted to the Provost. Please include progress toward goals articulated in the 2014/15 planning document submitted last year. Please provide all the information you can. Dean Say will email the 2015/16 planning template to the Administrative Council. Plans are due to the dean by October 15, 2014. The plan should not exceed 3 pages. 5. New Faculty Hires and Visiting Scholar The College is waiting for position descriptions/AA-1s to be approved by Faculty Affairs and Equity and Diversity. Positions cannot be advertised until they have been approved. The Base range for Assistant Professor will be the same as last year. The University will submit an ad to the Chronicle of Higher Education advertising the faculty openings. This year the Provost/College will be hosting a visiting scholar Dr. Lewis M. King, who will be housed in the Liberal Studies Program (due to space issues his office will be in the Philosophy department). Dr. King is a Senior Scholar at The Tom and Ethel Bradley Foundation. Dean Say will forward his C.V. for distribution and encouraged faculty to find ways to utilize his expertise in their programs and classes. 6. Probationary Faculty Support Program The goal of this fellowship program (which was discussed at the summer College Retreat) is to provide probationary faculty with summer research stipends to support their scholarly and/or creative work early in their CSUN career. Proposals will be reviewed and faculty members recommended to the Dean by a faculty committee, chaired by the Associate Dean. The application details will be forthcoming sometime later in the month. 7. Centers Some of the College’s Centers are more active than others and need to be rethought and/or redesigned. Greg Knotts has been selected to be the point person this year to help develop a new model and to assist with bringing the Centers into compliance with policies developed after the Chancellor’s Office audit. 8. Visiting Scholars Program A conversation about changes to the University’s Visiting Scholar Program took place. The University has turned all responsibility for compliance on these matters over the Dean FeuchtHavier and the Tseng College. All invited international scholars will be run through the Tseng College. Please consult with Associate Dean John Binkley if you have any questions about the process. 9. Budget Update The CSU still does not have a final budget from the state. Departments/Programs should have received their revised instructional budget spreadsheets; please contact Elizabeth Whirledge with any questions. Similar changes will be adopted for the SOC worksheet. The MAR will be notifying Departments/Programs about their carry forwards and will be forwarding a memo about release time that the College will be supporting for Fall/Spring. 10. Enrollment Issues CSUN will not be accepting any applications in Spring 2015. The University is taking more students than we are funded for and is reaching capacity. There is talk of declaring impaction. 11. Development Update Suren Seropian provided updates about how University Advancement is taking steps to ramp up representation of every college with well-organized direct mailings. Please email him any department/program highlights and bragging points. Additionally, Annual Fund calling will be beginning shortly; think about what you want funded and email Suren 2-3 sentences about your individual funding priorities. 12. Chairs Issues Questions were raised about EPC submission deadlines; Associate Dean Stanford will follow up via email regarding the deadlines. 13. Announcements Greg Knotts has been named the Director of New Faculty Orientation and Programs. 14. Adjournment – 3:30pm
