Spelling Homework
Here is a list of spelling options for you to choose from for the week. You will have 3
spelling assignments due each day. I will let you choose which 3 you would like to
complete. The 3 chosen must be new ones that you have not done before. Please do
not do the same 3 each week or I will assign a specific homework to you. Spelling
homework is a time for you to learn your words, as well as practice your cursive
handwriting. Enjoy and remember to use 4th grade quality!
Create a Word Search
Make a list of your spelling words on a word search program and print it out. See if
you can find your words. (http://www.puzzlemaker.com)
Backward Writing
First, write your spelling words, and then write them backwards. Use your best
cursive handwriting.
ABC order
Write your spelling words in abc order. Use your best cursive handwriting.
Rhymes Writing
Write your spelling words and next to them write a rhyming words. Example: menpen. Underline your spelling words and use your best cursive handwriting.
Code Writing
Write your spelling words using any type of code. You could use symbols to
represent letters if you want. Make sure your write your words and then put the code
beside it.
Tongue Twisters
Using your spelling words write a tongue twister for each word. All words should
start with the same letter. Example-Pink Pigs play the piano. Underline the spelling
word and use your best cursive handwriting.
Rainbow Writing
Write your spelling words in pencil and then use two or three different colored
crayons to trace over the words.
Telephone Words
Write your spelling words in your best cursive handwriting. Then, write the
numbers you would use on a telephone key pad if you were dialing your word. Add
up the total value.
Example- block- b(2) + l(5) + o(6) + c(2) + k(5)=20
Letter Writing
Write a letter to your favorite book character. Include all of your spelling words
using your best cursive writing.
Money Code
Use the money chart and add up the value of each of your words. Make sure you use
all of your words. Write them first in cursive and then show how you have added the
value beside it. Vowels=$0.25 and Consonants= $0.15
Ransom Words
Use magazines or newspapers to cut out the letters of your spelling words and paste
them onto a sheet of paper.
Scrabble Tiles
Write your words in cursive. Then, beside each word add up the value of the letters
in each of your spelling words. Lastly, list your spelling words in order from the
lowest value to the highest.
Scrambled Words
Write your words on the left side of your paper, but make sure they are scrambled.
Next to each word, leave a blank line, and write a clue or an illustration that explains
your word.
Example- cholos ________________ a place where you learn
Silly Sentences
Put each spelling word into a silly sentence. Underline each spelling word. Choose
one of your silly sentences and illustrate it. Example- The long line at the grocery
store was empty.
Stair steps
Write your words as stair steps.

Synonyms/Antonyms
Write your spelling words then write a synonym or antonym that could go with your
word.
The Conversation
Use sentences to write a dialogue between two characters using your spelling words.
Be sure to use quotation marks around the words that are being said by a character.
Underline each spelling word.
Example“Hey Jack, do you want to skate to the park?” asked Matt.
Jack replied, “I would love to, but where is that place?”
True or False
Write statements about each of your spelling words explaining their meaning. Some
of the statements should be true, and others should be false. Be sure to write true or
false next to each statement and circle the correct answer. Underline your spelling
words.
ExampleYou go to preschool when you are thirteen years old. True of False
If you uncover a pot you take off the lid. True or False
Words-in-Words
Using your words, write at least three words that you can make from each. You may
scramble the words to create new words.
Example- shower- show, owe, row
Missing Consonants
Write your spelling words, leaving blank spaces for all consonants.
Example- __ a__ ___ e____ (answer-carpet)
Missing Vowels
Write your spelling words, leaving blank spaces for all vowel letters.
Examples: bl__ck = black
Computer Words
Type your spelling words on a computer. Feel free to use any font you would like. Print out
the words and write the word in cursive beside it.
Consonants and Vowels
Write your spelling words; use a blue colored pencil for consonants and a red colored pencil
for vowels.
Definition Match
List your words on one side of your paper, and the definitions on the other side. Match the
word with the correct definition.
Word Cousins
Write three clues that describe your word and are related by categories.
Example- coat, raincoat, hat, answer-jacket
Alliterative Phrases or Sentences
Write alliterative phrases or sentences for each word. An alliteration uses the same
beginning letter. You may include a word or two that do not begin with the same initial
letter. Be sure to underline your spelling words.
Examples- Deep down in the dungeon the dragon drank Dr. Pepper.
