How to Find Books in
the Library

FICTION BOOKS
Step 1: Open “Library Search” by double clicking.
Step 2: If search screen doesn’t appear, click on North Star
Central Elementary.
Step 3: Choose which way you want to search- by author, title,
keyword, or subject.
*By author: Enter last name/full name of author making sure
spelling is correct
*By title: Enter all or part of title making sure spelling is
correct
*By keyword/subject: enter subject or keyword making sure
spelling is correct
Step 4: In search results, you can click on the title to get
more information. The Call Number should be listed close to
the title of the book. (All fiction books are alphabetical by
the last name of the author).
Step 5: Go to the fiction section of the library and locate the
book you are looking for.
*If you cannot locate it then it is either not in the correct
place or it is already checked out, see librarian for help if you
need help at this point.
NONFICTION BOOKS
Step 1: Open “Library Search” by double clicking.
Step 2: If search screen doesn’t appear, click on North Star
Central Elementary.
Step 3: Choose which way you want to search- subject is best
for nonfiction searches
*By keyword/subject: enter subject or keyword making sure
spelling is correct
Step 4: In search results, you can click on the title to get
more information. The Call Number should be listed close to
the title of the book. (All nonfiction books are ordered
according to subject).
Step 5: Using the shelf guides, locate the correct row for
that subject or call #. Look for the call number or books
about that subject and then try and locate the book you are
looking for. This can be difficult, sometimes you find a better
book as you search.
*If you cannot locate it then it is either not in the correct
place or it is already checked out, see librarian for help if you
need help at this point.
EASY BOOKS (story books)
Step 1: Open “Library Search” by double clicking.
Step 2: If search screen doesn’t appear, click on North Star
Central Elementary.
Step 3: Choose which way you want to search- by author, title,
keyword, or subject.
