As part of our Year 7 Subject Tutor Consultation Evening, we have invited a representative from Laburnum Books in to
sell books which your child may be reading as part of the Accelerated Reader Programme.
Your child currently reads for ten minutes at the start of every English lesson to assist them with their learning,
vocabulary and understanding of the writer’s techniques. After reading each book they will undertake a test designed to
ensure that they have understood the book, before they progress on to the next level or band.
On the evening, you will be able to purchase books at half the retail price. Mrs Spittle, who oversees the Accelerated
Reader tests, will be available to provide you with information about the reading age of your child and can recommend
books you may wish to purchase to assist your child in their learning and progress. Payments must be made in cash and
you will be able to take books away with you on the night. Most books will cost approximately £3-£5. These can be the
perfect stocking fillers.
