Job summary:
 Playing an important role in the ongoing development of Small Animal Dermatology services at the RVC through
service delivery at the Beaumont Sainsbury Animal Hospital.
 Contribute significantly to the overall objectives in the provision of clinical service, and teaching, caseload and
income growth and the advancement of a continuing professional development programme with a special
emphasis on first opinion and referral (internal and external) dermatology caseload.
 Work with colleagues in the BSAH to develop best practice in first opinion dermatology case management and
protocols.
 Develop and deliver a high quality internal and external referral dermatology service at the BSAH, liaising with
colleagues at the QMHA as and when necessary.

Participate in the veterinary surgeon rota as required to provide first and second opinion services, skilled diagnostics,
modelling the highest standards of professional behaviour and a compassionate and collaborative approach at all times.
Contribute positively towards achievement of hospital goals for teaching, clinical research and standards of customer
service.
 Provide guidance, supervision and support to undergraduate veterinary students during their rotation at the
hospital to ensure successful delivery of the biweekly intra-mural rotations. Inspire, encourage and inform
students and ensure on-going improvements to the teaching standards through the provision and receipt of
constructive feedback.
 Interface with colleagues engaged in clinical research (renal and cardiac clinics) to ensure the best overall care for
all patients.
 Provide outstanding standards of customer service to referring vets and clients, and charitable partners such as
DogsTrust.

 Ensure timely, transparent and concise clinical and financial discussions with clients and referring vets.




Ensure a high standard of clinical governance is reflected in clinical records and patient care.
Ensure fluent and pro active communication between veterinary teams, administration staff and management.
Demonstrate a proactive approach with client and referring vet communication relating to inpatients and their
care ensuring timely and accurate updates are provided.
Excellent oral and written communication skills demonstrated:
 In the management of clinical records, consultation and client queries.
 By tact, discretion and collaboration applied to referring vets, clients, students, vet team, nurse team and the
reception team.
 By thoroughly communicating and developing treatment plans with the nursing team.

care of referring vets, clients and their pets.

Hospital and College with students, clients and the general public.

Key tasks:
 Work with hospital administrative team to maximize opportunities to provide first opinion and referral (internal
and external) service for dermatology cases.
 Cooperate and ensure compliance with hospital policies, protocols, clinical governance and standards.
 Attend basic health and safety training as required
 Follow local procedures for safe working practices and the College’s Health and Safety Policy
 Ensure correct and adequate billing for all patients seen.
 Oversee the vet students to accommodate daily clinical caseload and teaching opportunities.
 Contribute to the policies, protocols and information that relates to clinical standards and communicate these to
the wider team and owners as required.
 Ensure compliance with all aspects of RCVS Practice Standards Scheme requirements for Hospital status
 Cooperate in the re-organisation of rotas to accommodate sickness or clinical emergencies and ensure client service
is maintained.
 Apply for holiday in good time and pursue CPD that will enhance the Hospital’s services.
 Contribute to the training of other teams (nurses, reception) to facilitate high levels of understanding relating to
waiting room products and services offered.

 Lead on the development and delivery of a high quality internal and external referral dermatology service at the
BSAH, liaising with colleagues at the QMHA as and when necessary
 In liaison with the Practice Manager and Head Vet, develop best practice in first opinion dermatology case
management and protocols across the clinical team.
 Deal proactively with referral vet and client queries and concerns and recognize the need to refer elsewhere if
required.
 Ensure regular case discussion at ward rounds and M&M meetings for the continual improvement of clinical
standards and student education.
 Participate in discussions and contribute solutions for operational difficulties encountered at BSAH
 Cooperate and participate with positive suggestions for change.
 Display flexibility and a positive outlook to find immediate solutions to clinical and operational problems.

Key tasks:
 Undertake an active role in undergraduate clinical teaching to a high standard through informal group teaching
and structured first opinion consultations (clinical standards, professional standards, financial and clinical
governance).
Flexibility: To deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is needed, and the post holder may be required to perform
work not specifically referred to above.
