Solar Object Project Name _______________________ Hour ________ Storyboard or powerpoint Score ______ / 20 So, here is your task—Our Solar system is a collection of some very unique objects... like planets and moons. Select an object from the list provided and tell the “story” of this object through the thoughtful use of diagrams...pictures...and other images. MY SOLAR OBJECT:______________________________ is a planet/moon (circle one) ***Create a 11”x17” storyboard or a power point that addresses the following areas: a) ___/8—Describe how this object is similar to and different from the Earth? (Be sure to use specific data and details to describe how your object is similar to/different from Earth! Use your Analyzing Planets data sheet for this, in addition to textbooks you find helpful. (4 points for similarities to Earth, 4 points for differences from Earth) b) ___/4—Compare your object to another similar solar object (if you have a moon, compare to another moon; if you have an INNER planet (Mercury, Venus, Mars) compare to an OUTER planet (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune) & vice versa. c) I’ll compare my object to ___________________. d) ___/4—What NASA missions / observing tools have been used to gather information and images about your object? What plans…if any, are there for future study? d) ___/4—What research is being done or questions do scientists have about this object? Requirements for each storyboard/ppt slide... Have 1 storyboard/slide for each of the four items above. (For ppt-include a title slide, so 5 slides max.) Each storyboard/slide should contain 3 things: 1) A theme (1 word)…Noun, Verb or Adjective to describe what we are learning about your object… create your word list after you have researched your object. What words will best help you to communicate the results of your research? 2) At least one (ppt=cited) picture or (colored) drawing, image or diagram—don’t forget… www.google.com is not a website, it’s a search engine—your citations must be specific and be in small font-size Storyboard pictures may be on the back of that particular storyboard. 3) Caption for your image…one sentence (25 words or less) IN YOUR OWN WORDS! Here is an example ppt slide. For a power point presentation, use the following sites for your research and pictures: http://kids.nineplanets.org/title.htm --a great site to start with for solar system info. Click on your planet http://www.planetary.org/explore/space-topics/ ---good planet comparisons and space missions http://www.windows2universe.org/our_solar_system/solar_system.html –Select your planet from the sidebar http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/index.cfm –info on the planets, their moons, and missions to specific targets http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/compchart.cfm --good for comparisons of planets and even moons http://hubblesite.org/gallery/album/solar_system –lots of solar system photos! Pick your planet from the sidebar http://science.nasa.gov/planetary-science/focus-areas/ --click on the Inner or Outer Solar System links at the bottom to find out more about your object http://science.nasa.gov/planetary-science/missions/ --hover the mouse over the different missions to get a brief description or click on the mission you need info. So, think very carefully and creatively as to how you would like to tell the “story” of the (sometimes very bizarre) object you have chosen & enjoy your “Out-of-This-World” experience! Just in case, here is a place to jot down some pre-presentation notes about your solar object. ___/8—Describe how this object is similar to and different from the Earth.
