ELDERBERRIES CLUB
A meeting point for those over 55.
A place for entertainment, education and information sponsored by
the Royal Voluntary Service “Get well, Stay well” scheme in Newhaven, Peacehaven
and Saltdean area held at Newhaven Day Centre, West Quay, Newhaven, BN9 9BP
All are invited. Tea, coffee & biscuits (and the occasional cake!)
Tuesday 5th January 2016 – “I Resolve”. Share your hopes for the new year and let us in
on your new year resolutions. Do you have a project for 2016 – can we help?
Tuesday 19th January 2016 – “Eternal Father Strong to Save”. An illustrated talk on the
wreck of HMS Brazen off Newhaven in 1800 and how Newhaven became one of the first
Lifeboat stations in the world.
Tuesday 2nd February 2016 – “It’s Big & Yellow and Easy to See”. A visit from our
friends of the “East Sussex Association of Blind and Partially Sighted People” demonstrating
their new “Outreach Vehicle” which promotes the services of ESAB and carries all sorts of
great equipment to help those with sight problems.
Tuesday 16th February – “Infamy, Infamy, they’ve all got it infamy”. One month ahead
of the “Ides of March” Graham Keane will bring along some archaeological finds and tell us
“what the Romans did for us” in the Sussex area.
Tuesday 1st March – “Gadgets & Gizmos”. A visit from the “Welbeing” team who provide
the “lifeline” alarm system many of us use. Hilary Dogan will bring an array of high-tech
gadgets that can help you stay safe and independent in your own home. Like having a
benevolent “big brother” watching over you.
Tuesday 15th March – “Gentlemen Beware!” Possibly the most feared date in a
gentleman’s diary is the 29th February in a Leap Year. It traditionally gives ladies the chance
to “pop the question” to an eligible bachelor. Jean Melling gives an illustrated talk on her
collection of Leap Year Cards. Fascinating – if somewhat scary to us chaps!
Tuesday 29th March – “And bend…” By popular request Rosie will be back with a repeat
of her gentle chair-based exercise routine. Great for working off all those chocolates from
Easter.
Meetings run from 1.00pm to 3.00pm. Admission of £2 includes refreshments and any
guest speakers or activities. Car parking available & transport can be provided by the
Royal Voluntary Service for those who need it.
VOLUNTEERS ALWAYS NEEDED. Help us enlarge and develop our services throughout
the local area. Please get in touch.
