EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHINICIAN COURSE Dear Prospective EMT Student Thank you for inquiring about the next EMT Course at Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad (SVRS) starting on March 4th. The classes will be held at the SVRS Shannon Training Center located at 8711 Courthouse Rd. at the Spotsylvania Courthouse. Classes will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings and some Saturdays. There are a limited number of spaces available in the course. Entrance to this course is subject to an interview and CPR class completion. This course is designed for people with no medical experience, so don’t let that deter you. It consists of 154 hours of classroom lecture, practical exercises and ambulance ride-a-long. This is not a first aid course, but designed to allow you to operate as an EMT on ambulances responding to 911 calls. At the conclusion of this course, you will be eligible to take the Virginia and National Registry EMT exam. The minimum requirements for enrollment are: 1. Students must be 16 years of age on or before March 18, 2013 2. Students must hold CPR certification on or before March 18, 2013* (*) – Proof of current certification in one of the CPR disciplines listed on the class application must be attached to the application. Three CPR course dates are offered for those students who don’t hold CPR certification. A list of dates and times are on the application. If you are not available any of these dates, you can seek other sources for CPR training. Your card must be valid through December 2013. The cost for the course is $300, payable to “Spotsylvania Vol. Rescue Squad” which includes the cost of the textbook and all initial testing fees. Applications can be faxed to 540-582-2153.
