THE ENGLISH MAJOR AT GEORGETOWN COLLEGE http://www.georgetowncollege.edu/eng/ The English Department offers a major, a major with creative writing emphasis, a minor, and a minor with creative writing emphasis. English Major Requirements English majors take 39 hours, including: 36 hours in English above ENG 112 or 115, and One 3-hour allied course. Of the 36 hours in English, 12 hours are required of all majors: ENG 211 English Literature Survey I (3 hours) ENG 213 English Literature Survey II (3 hours) ENG 292 Introduction to Literary Analysis (1 hour) ENG 335 Shakespeare (3 hours), and ENG 492 Senior Seminar (2 hours). The remaining 24 hours of English courses must include one class in each of four distribution areas (12 hours). Students also take 12 hours of electives and senior comprehensive examinations. Major with Creative Writing Emphasis To complete a Creative Writing Emphasis within the English major, students take 12 hours of the 36 hours in English in Creative Writing courses, including 6-9 hours in workshop courses (ENG 391, ENG 393, and ENG 395) and 3-6 hours chosen from among ENG 324, ENG 334, ENG 344, or ENG 472. Like other English majors, majors with the Creative Writing Emphasis are expected to pass senior comprehensive exams. Minor in English Minors take 18 hours (six classes) in the English Department (not counting English 111, 112, and 115). Minor with Creative Writing Emphasis Minors with a Creative Writing emphasis take 18 hours in the English Department above 211 or 213, including ENG 344 (3 hours), 6-9 hours in workshop courses, and 6-9 hours in ENG 324, ENG 334, and/or ENG 472.
