Be sure to emphasize that workshops are not only a time for process, but also for being reminded of, or learning new content and research that will help teams focus their systems to become more effective at helping each and every student achieve. MATERIALS STRAND PPT slides 1-4 Handout pages 2-3 CCR FOL PPT slides 5-9 Handout TOP of p.4 All If instructors choose to do any type of welcoming opening—PLEASE LIMIT TO NO MORE THAN 4 TO 5 MINUTES. WSLA Journals Move through slides 6-8 as a very quick review from previous workshop. Journal Reflection for Enhancing Personal Leadership Skills Reflection Questions: PPT # 9: One of WSLA’s goals is to help you connect what you learn at the workshops to your practice. Please take a few minutes and reflect in your WSLA journals, answering the question on the slide 9 and in your Handout Packet at the top of page 4. 9:00-10:20 Two-Year Outcomes/Rubrics Deeper dive from last workshop Directions for Instructors: Distribute individual data sheets for each team from previous workshop At the last WSLA workshop (Year 2 Workshop 1), each team spent time reviewing the WSLA Two-Year Outcomes and Rubrics document and determined where they believe themselves to be at this point on each of the WSLA strands. This activity is designed to: ©WSLA Year 1 Workshop 3 Lesson Plan 2014-15 PPT slides 10 Handout Individual Team Rubric Rating Sheets ALL Handout P. 4 WSLA Two-Year Outcomes/Rubrics Page 2 1. Allow teams to dig deeper into the work they will need to complete prior to the end of the WSLA commitment 2. Develop a plan of action to complete that work. 10:20-10:35 Break Remind teams to return in 15 minutes PPT slide 11 10:35-10:55 Focus on Evidence Tell participants the instructors will now share something that teams should be thinking about when beginning to develop their Theory of Action: Interim and Ultimate evidence (for see slide 13 definitions). Be sure to emphasize the difference between the two. PPT slides 12-13 HP page 5 COI/POP/TO A PPT slides 14-15 Handout page 6 COI/POP/TO A Also share that data and evidence are not the same. Using the medical example from the previous workshop: If someone has a fever, the degree of fever is the data. A fever is evidence of an illness – usually, but not always, an infection. When student test scores remain flat – the scores are data. The evidence is the story that data tells us: We are not meeting the learning needs of these students. How will we decide what should be done? Should we collect some different form of data and determine what those data tell us? Should we try a strategy to collect data/evidence or a new intervention? 10:55-11:45 Team Time Teams now have almost an hour before lunch to: Think about their POP and what they will want in their Theory of Action What interim evidence will they collect to determine if they are doing the right things in their TOA? When will the data be collected – analyzed – and the plan reviewed? What ultimate evidence will indicate the work has resulted in what was intended? ©WSLA Year 1 Workshop 3 Lesson Plan 2014-15 Page 3 11:45-12:30 Lunch Please be ready to go by 12:30 PPT slide 16 12:30-12:45 Prep for Sharing Please use no more than 6 to 7 minutes to review the protocol purpose and steps. Then: allow teams 15 minutes to prepare for sharing—Who will speak? What points does the team want to emphasize? PPT slide 17 ALL Purpose of using this protocol: for getting feedback from a different district to have an opportunity for feedback from others who have NOT been in your previous conversationsBEFORE you more too far ahead with your TOA. Emphasize: The protocol should be followed exactly even though there may be a tendency to want to change the steps. When the protocol is followed, your team will actually learn more and have more information to process later. 12:45-2:00 Feedback Protocol 2:00-2:15 Break 2:15-3:15 Team Time – Review the steps of the protocol on PPT slide 18. Assign teams (2 districts per group unless some teams are large and need to be divided into 2 groups) Ensure each group has a time keeper and facilitator Ask participants to move through the protocol—25 minutes per group Coaches should monitor time and keep teams to the protocol time. PPT slide 18 3:20 Reflection Homework assignment Evaluation PPT Slide 17 Refer participants to slide 19 for directions Mention they may want to review the homework assignment on page 8 before processing Slide 20: Teams report out one thing they learned from the feedback they received from another team Add the date of return needed to slide 21 Be sure to distribute and collect evaluations ©WSLA Year 1 Workshop 3 Lesson Plan 2014-15 PPT slides 19-20 Handout pages 6-7 LCSWSFL POP FOL PPT slide 21-22 Handout page 7 Evaluation forms Page 4 ©WSLA Year 1 Workshop 3 Lesson Plan 2014-15 Page 5
