Located in one of the state’s fastest growing areas, the district represents a diversified community including: 33% economic disadvantaged, 5% limited English proficient, and 10% students with disabilities. Currently, the district consists of one high school, one middle school, one intermediate school and four elementary schools, utilizing a K-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-12 grade-level configuration. We are ethnically comprised of 83% Caucasian, 16% Hispanic, <1% American Indian, <1% Asian, <1% African American, and <1% Pacific Islander. School Wasatch High School is a comprehensive four-year public high school enrolling approximately 1,800 students in grades 9-12. The school recently celebrated its 100 year anniversary in 2008. Wasatch High School is licensed through the Northwest Accreditation Commission, via AdvancED. Curriculum The academic program is organized on a block schedule with eight classes per quarter. Students take four, 82 minute block classes each day. Each block class meets every other day. Our AP program has placed us on the national AP Honor Roll. Last year, AP students earned over 1,110 college credits through AP testing. Wasatch High offers the following AP courses: Biology, Calculus AB, Chemistry, English Literature and Composition, Government and Politics, United States History, World History, Human Geography, Spanish, Music Theory, Physics 1, Physics C, Studio Art 2-D Design, Studio Art/Drawing, and Statistics. Our AP classes and tests are open enrollment. Honors classes are offered in a variety of English, Math, and Science courses. It is recommended that honors students maintain a B+ average in their honors courses. Distance Education classes are offered through a partnership with Utah Valley University (UVU). Students must be juniors with a minimum 3.3 GPA or seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA, to participate in these live interactive courses. They are taught via satellite, in our building, on the UVU schedule. Concurrent enrollment credit is also offered at Wasatch High School. These are classes taught by our high school instructors, with the option of earning college credit at the same time. Most classes are for juniors and seniors, although UVU allows sophomores by exception. These credits are earned through UVU or Snow College. We also offer trade and skill certification classes, through Mountain Land Applied Technology College (MATC). Last year students earned college credit, as well as state certifications in trades such as Certified Nursing Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Dental Assistant, Cosmetology and Welding. 436 AP exams taken in 2014-- 290 scored a 3 or above on those exams Students earned over 2,000 distance education credits in 2014 Over 1,650 concurrent enrollment credits were earned by WHS students Rank and Grade Point Average (GPA) calculation Student grades are based on an un-weighted, 4.0 GPA scale. All students with a 4.0 GPA, share the rank of 1st. Class of 2014 There were 400 graduates from the class of 2014 last year. 8 seniors earned a 4.0 GPA 134 seniors earned a 3.5-3.99 GPA 132 seniors earned a 3.0-3.49 GPA 64 seniors earned a 2.50 -2.99 GPA 34 seniors earned a 2.0-2.49 GPA 28 seniors earned less than a 2.0 GPA Post High School Approximately 60% matriculated to a 4-year university Approximately 20% matriculated to 2-year institutions Approximately 20% selected military service, work, or technical instruction *We have a unique situation, in that a large percentage of our students choose to defer college for a 2-year religious mission Wasatch High School’s class of 2014 was granted over $140,000 in Wasatch Community Foundation Scholarships. 3 students earned the New Century Scholarship, earning their Associate’s Degree in high school. 15 Sterling Scholars were recognized at the school level, 6 students won at the state level. Overall, the class was offered over $3,700,000 in scholarships.
