RTI Checklist for Teachers This is what RCSD wants us to do… First and foremost, have a clear, narrow, measureable goal for the student to accomplish as a result of the intervention. All of your data should then correspond to this goal. (For instance: Student will read 50 1st grade sight words on-demand with 100% accuracy by November.) Once you set the goal, here’s what you need to document: WHAT TO DO Calculate student baseline Description of intervention/student response Use both “off-level” (PLEP) and grade-level benchmarks and progress-monitoring measures to assess student skill and growth. Conduct regular progressmonitoring Analyze the data – is the student a “non-responder”? HOW TO DOCUMENT Administer initial academic screening measure (this should include research-based norms for the developmental level and benchmarks – even if they are local norms) Frequency and length of intervention, verification that the intervention was carried out with integrity (if it’s something like FUNdations, you followed “the program”), and description of student attentiveness/effort during the intervention Include data from grade-level assessments as well as data that monitors student progress at their present level of performance. Basically, show student individual growth from where they started to where they are as well as how they do on assessments at grade-level (in comparison with peers). “Regular” means: For tier 2 intervention, at least 1-2 times per month. For tier 3, at least 1-2 times per week. (If the goal can be assessed using one of the aimsweb assessments, use that to monitor progress.) The student’s skill continues to be “discrepant” from peers (falls below grade-level benchmarks) AND the student’s rate of improvement is discrepant from peers (no or slow progress despite the intervention). IF BOTH OF THESE ARE TRUE: Change your intervention (if it’s tier 2 you can either switch what you’re doing or move to tier 3) and start back at “calculating baseline.” Go through the entire checklist again. If the student is non-responsive to this additional intervention, it’s probably time to make a referral to CSE. Tier 2 intervention looks like: *No more than 7 students, all with a shared intervention need *Minimum of 3-5 times per week *30 minutes or more Tier 3 intervention looks like: *3 or fewer students *Daily *30 minutes or more Please let Kate know if you have questions/concerns or would like to see this information in more detail. You are all amazing teachers and I know you work hard. Hopefully, this will answer questions and help you organize your work with our struggling students. I’m here if you need support!
