Children’s Services Workforce Planning and Development Team Workforce Planning and Development Training Programme 2013/14 Welcome to the Children’s Services Workforce Planning and Development Training Programme. We offer comprehensive, high quality training courses to suit the mandatory and essential training requirements of the children’s workforce. It is open to all staff and practitioners who come under the umbrella of Children’s Services including: Schools (Primary, Secondary, Special and Academies) Early Years Private, Voluntary and Independent Settings Childminders Children’s Centres Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector Youth, Play and Sport Introduction Welcome to the Children’s Services Workforce Planning and Development Training Programme. This programme has been developed by the Workforce Planning and Development Team and includes comprehensive training courses to suit the mandatory and essential training requirements of the children’s workforce and is open to all staff and practitioners who come under the umbrella of Children’s Services including: Schools (primary, secondary, special and academies), Early Years Private, Voluntary and Independent Settings, Childminder's, Children’s Centres, Youth Play and Sport, Youth, Voluntary, Community and Faith Organisations. In addition to the courses listed in this programme the Workforce Planning and Development Team will be able to design, co ordinate and commission bespoke courses specific to your needs, looking at ways in which your staff can develop, not only through direct training but by linking to others in a similar situation How to use this programme The programme is organised into five sections, First Aid, Health and Safety, Human Resources, Safeguarding and General. Within each section you will find training courses appropriate to all practitioners within Children’s Services. How to book onto a course Please follow the guidelines at the bottom of each page for each course. Bookings made via Training Shared Service Centre: A booking form for your use can be found by clicking on the link on the title page or email trainingsharedservicecentre@bolton.gov.uk with the course details Telephone bookings cannot be accepted Bookings made via Bolton Under Fives Forum: Book by telephone or email. No booking form required. Bookings made via Governor Exchange: Book online by visiting www.Governorexchange.boltonlea.org.uk If you don’t have access to a computer please phone Governor Services on 01204 332114 Confirmations If booked via Training Shared Service Centre Once you send in a booking form you will automatically be booked on the course and you will only be notified if the course is full. If the course is full, you will be contacted and offered an alternative place (if available) or your place will be cancelled. IMPORTANT - You will receive a Joining Instruction notification approximately 6 weeks prior to the course date, however, please note this is not a reminder to attend and will not be accepted as a reason to waive the fee for not attending If booked via Bolton Under Fives Forum Once you have emailed or telephoned to book a place you will automatically be booked on the course and you will receive a confirmation email to confirm the booking. In addition to the confirmation email you will receive a confirmation letter along with an invoice, 6 weeks prior to the course date. If booked via Governor Exchange Confirmation of all bookings will be sent out via email. If you do not have an email address and are unable to access the online service, then please ensure that you give an alternative means of contact via the telephone bookings line Cancellations If booked via Training Shared Service Centre To cancel a course please notify the Training Shared Service Centre on 01204 337600 or email trainingsharedservicecentre@bolton.gov.uk A cancellation must be made at least 3 weeks prior to the event date, otherwise the following charges will apply: Cancellation period Charge If you cancel a course 3 weeks prior to the course date None If you cancel a course between 2 to 3 weeks of the course date £25 If you cancel a course within 1 week of the course date Full price If you fail to attend on the day Full price IMPORTANT – Non-attendance without prior notice will always be charged at full rate unless there are exceptional extenuating circumstances. Other members of the Children’s Services Workforce: You will be invoiced in advance of the course taking place. Prompt payment will ensure your place; failure to pay will result in losing your place. If any Children’s Centres wish to be invoiced 1 month in arrears, please contact the Workforce Planning and Development Team on 01204 332551. N.B. Please do not send any cheques to the Training Shared Service Centre with your booking forms as they will not be accepted. Any cheques sent by post will be returned. Practitioners from outside of the Bolton borough will incur an additional 15% administration charge. If booked via Bolton Under Fives Forum You will be charged/invoiced 6 weeks in advance of the course date. Getting the most out of your course and what you need to consider In order to get the most out of the training courses you and your manager, as appropriate, should spend some time considering the following: Before the course: Participant: Why do I want to go on the course? Is it relevant to my job role and responsibilities? Is it a mandatory or essential requirement that I attend this course Has my manager agreed or approved my attendance and have I got agreement on who will pay for the course? Due to my working hours/constraints, will I be able to attend the course on time and will I need to leave work early to get to the venue on time? If I don’t get there on time I may be turned away and still be charged in full for non-attendance If I cancel between 2/3 weeks of course date, I or my school/setting will be charged £25 If I cancel within 1 week of the date, I or my school/setting will charged the full price Manager: Is it relevant to their job role and responsibilities, do I want them to share their learning with the team? Have I approved their attendance and agreed to who will pay for the course Will I need to let them finish early to ensure they get to the venue on time or do I expect them to attend the course in their own time? Do I need to prepare them for the content of the course, e.g. relevance to work? If they cancel within 3 weeks of the course date, they or my school/setting will be charged £25 If they cancel within 1 week of the date, they or my school/setting will charged the full price After the course: Participant: What have I learnt from the training course and how can I put what I’ve learnt into practice Have I completed an evaluation form and were my comments constructive? How will I share what I’ve learnt with my manager and team? Do I need to consider further training courses or remember to record a renewal date if the course is accredited.
