CERTIFICATE IN HEALTHCARE MANAGEMENT, ENTREPRENEURSHIP, AND TECHNOLOGY

Structure of the Program:
I. H-MET Seminar Attendance: Students must attend a minimum of twelve (12) seminars between
year 1 and mid-December of year 4. This requirement can be fulfilled by attending lectures from a
series organized by the H-MET group, which will follow a curriculum designed in conjunction with, and
approved by, the certificate committee. In addition, the H-MET group will use its newsletter to
periodically publicize other lectures, conferences, and presentations that may be counted towards this
requirement.
II. Course Requirement: Students must complete two (2) courses
Completion of one (1) course of the three allowed by Perelman SOM’s Additional
Course Policy from the Health Care Management Major at Wharton and other
departments within the University of Pennsylvania. The courses used to fulfill this credit requirement
must be evaluated for content to determine whether they fit the goals of the program.
Completion of one (1) content-appropriate Frontiers in Medical Science
III. Experiential Component: Students must undertake an experience in which they explore their
interest in an H-MET topic in greater depth. One of the purposes of the H-MET group will be to
facilitate connections between students and these experiences. Any experience must be approved by
advising faculty, and must involve a deliverable to be submitted prior to graduation. Options could
include:
 Completion of a scholarly pursuit project in an H-MET topic
 Completion of a research project in an H-MET topic
 Completion of an approved project-based course within the University of
 Pennsylvania.
 Completion of internship in an H-MET related industry.
 Completion of an administrative shadowing experience. Students would be paired with a
faculty member or physician who carries out an H-MET related role within the University or the
hospital system, and would be required to assist this person in a project.
