Botulinum Toxin

How Does Botulinum

Toxin Work?

Botulinum Toxin Type A has been available for over 10 years for the treatment of facial lines. It has been used for over 20 years for the management of spasm in certain groups of patients.

Botulinum Toxin is a neurotoxin.

The neurotoxin inhibits the release of a neurotransmitter called acetycholine. This release of neurotransmitter causes the affected muscles to stop contracting. By stopping or reducing the contraction of the muscle, the tissue and skin on top of the muscle does not make the characteristic lines which are often associated with aging.
