Press Release November 2015, page 1 / 3 HARTING to present the MICA production model at SPS Swift, cost efficient adaptation / Contest: "How do you use MICA?" Espelkamp, Germany, 24 November 2015 --- The HARTING Technology Group is offering HARTING IIC MICA, a modular platform of open hardware and software that can be rapidly and economically adapted to many industrial application areas. After the platform was received with great interest at the Hannover Messe, HARTING will now be presenting production models and solutions at SPS IPC from 24 - 26 November 2015 (Hall 10, Stand 140) for delivery in 2016. Industrie 4.0 implementation requires new solutions for hardware, software and system design. In particular, there is an increasing need for compact, robust solutions to handle decentralized tasks in the field, from acquiring sensor data and orchestrating the PLC system to communicating with the central IT systems and the Cloud. MICA is an open system comprising hardware and numerous apps and development tools. MICA is suitable for both rapid prototyping as well as tasks in harsh industrial environments. Hardware and software interfaces are open and the software employs lightweight virtualization with Linux Containers (virtual industrial computing). Internal USB interfaces allow rapid peripheral device connection. Numerous free Linux Containers are available for the widest range of development environments: Java, Python, C/C++. In addition, already prepared Linux Containers from industrial applications such as OPC-UA or databases are also available – saving time and money, and enabling projects to be completed in less time. HARTING customers enjoy the advantage of being able to port complex applications to MICA within a few hours or days. In some cases, the first executable applications are even created during the MICA programming workshops. "MICA is open, diverse and remarkable. The sky is the limit," explains Dr. Jan Regtmeier, Director Product Management, HARTING IT Software Development. Press Release November 2015, page 2 / 3 The decidedly positive customer response has prompted HARTING to hold an application contest called "How do you use MICA?" Users are called on to develop an innovative application with MICA. The three best applications will be announced at the Hannover Messe 2016 and the winning teams will be awarded premium prizes.
