They will also get to get a taste of a Mexican dish. Standards: Identify the meaning; purpose and the roles people play in various social/cultural and folk dances. To start off I will have bring in my own game of Loteria which is like a Mexican bingo. I will have the set out in the tables so that two students can share one. I will have the cards and we will play for about 5 minutes just to give the kids a taste of a Mexican game since we will be learning about Mexican traditions. Students Will: Watch the video of the dance and learn its background. Explore AC will: I will then show the kids a short clip of what a Baile Florclorico is. I will then ask if any of them want to come to the front of the class and dance or try it out. Just to get a laugh out of it. Differentiation: If the kids are too shy to participate then I will try out and give them a little dance. I will take in Mexican rice for the students to eat since that is a Mexican poplular dish. Some holidays that I will talk to them about will be Quinceaneras, birthday parties, Dia de la Primavera, Semana Santa, Cinco de Mayo. The clothing that I will talk about will be the dresses and costumes that are used for Musicians. We will talk about famous Mexican dishes. Along with all of that I will also teach the kids facts about Mexico such as Mexico’s official name, how many states Mexico has and so on. Differentiation: In order for it not to get crazy when I am giving the lesson and passing out the rice I will have the rice served before the class starts and when we begin the lesson we will give a plate to each student. AC will: We will be creating Sombreros. In the middle of the class I will have a table set up with paper plates, cups, crayons and other crafts. I will hand each student a paper plate and a cup along with some crafts. The student will have to flip the cup upside down and glue in the middle of the paper plate and it will create the shape of the sombrero. The kids will get to color it or decorate it as they please. Students will: Follow all instructions and create their own sombrero. They get to decorate it as they wish. They will also have to pick up their crayons once they are done and place them in the bin where they belong. Differentiation: On the board I will have pictures of Sombreros so that they can get an idea of what they look like and how they are decorated.
