Take care of this leaflet as it contains the homework tasks for the next two terms. You will be able to stick your homework into your homework book at school to ensure good presentation. Bring your work in every Thursday and make sure it is of a high quality. By the end of Term 6 you will have your very own project. The presentation of your work is important but the content is even more important. Take time to research your task and make sure you ask if you do not understand what to do. Also, take time to check your work through carefully. Throughout the tasks there are some extension activities to stretch you. Now it’s time to have some fun! WEEK 5 (Due in Thursday 21st May) With a large sneeze you leave the lungs but start falling towards the stomach. This is where food gets digested. Write down a recount of a lovely meal that you have had. Remember to describe each part of the meal and how you felt whilst eating it. EXT – draw a picture of the meal to make it look as appetising as possible. HALF TERM WEEK 1 (Due in Thursday 23rd April) WEEK 6 (Due in Thursday 4th June) As this is a new term and a new topic, you need to design your front cover for your project. Remember that this is a scientific topic so no horror or gore! That was disgusting!!! The stomach is no place for a small child and so you head for the heart. You are being pushed along in a current of blood cells and platelets towards the beating centre of the body. Everyone knows that the heart is where love comes from and we all love a word search so here it is! WEEK 2 (Due in Thursday 30th April) You have been miniaturised by scientist friends of yours and put into a person’s body. Your journey starts off in the mouth. Look in your own mouth and see if you can complete the worksheet for WK2 EXT – write ways of keeping your mouth healthy. WEEK 3 (Due in Thursday 7th May) WEEK 7 (Due in Thursday 11th June) The heart starts beating faster (maybe the person is doing some exercise) and you shoot out and back downwards. This time you are headed for the intestines. A normal person’s small intestine is about 6m/20ft long. Write a list of things that are about the same length. After the mouth, you pass into the throat and everyone knows that this is where words are made! That is why you have a crossword to do this week. EXT – research the length of different animals’ intestines to find the longest and shortest. WEEK 4 (Due in Thursday 14th May) WEEK 8 (Due in Thursday 18th June) Further into the body you suddenly become aware of onrushing air. Watch out – you have entered the lungs!! Once inside, this is a violent place so write a really descriptive poem about your time being thrown around inside. You are feeling lost so try to label the diagram on WK8 with the names of the body parts. EXT – add labels to any other body parts that you know. WEEK 9 (Due in Thursday 25th June) After the darkness, you make you way upwards as far as you can and you emerge into a large grey area – the brain. This controls the person. Choose a person that you would like to control for a day. Write all about. EXT – draw the person who you are controlling, whilst you are doing it! WEEK 10 (Due in Thursday 2nd July) Once the experiment is over, you drop out of the person’s ear and you are enlarged back to normal. You ask about what made the heart beat faster and the reply is exercise. You need to keep a diary of all of the exercise that you do for a week. EXT – make sure you also record you pulse rate before and after each exercise. WEEK 11 (Due in Thursday 9th July) In order to tell people all about your adventure within the human body you decide to make a cartoon film to show to school children. You need to create superheroes for each body part that you visited and write a small fact-file about each one. EXT – Why don’t you actually make an animated film to show the rest of the class?
