KFI Labs at St Andrews Autumn 2015 We are holding 4 KFI labs this semester. KFI Labs are linked to the Knowing from the Inside project at the University of Aberdeen, led by Professor Tim Ingold. They are practical and experimental sessions in anthropology. They are open to all MRes and PhD students in the department and to KFI participants. They are linked to the MRes in Art and Perception, of which they form a compulsory element. 17th September KFI My Favourite Lab….. Each participant should bring two items (artifact, image, film clip, video or quote (or other) to the Lab. The first should be significant or inspirational for your own research or practice. The second should link to an artist, architect, filmmaker, poet, musician or scientist whose practice you admire. Both offerings relate to Jacob von Uexküll’s notion of Umwert, ecological psychologist James Gibson’s notion of affordances and the ‘creative act’. The aim of the session is to explore ideas and working strategies in the process of ‘researching’ and ‘making’. Be prepared to talk about each piece for no more than 3 minutes! Please contact Stephanie to confirm attendance and request related readings.
