In regard to naming of parks, there will be no parks named after living Councilors.
There was $6.1 billion worth of damages from ex tropical cyclone Oswald thus far.
Cardwell foreshore is on time and on budget
Innisfail library RDA(Regional Development Fund Australia) funding is to be known next week.
Bill has been appointed to the The Far North Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils
(FNQROC) board and also other roles important to the region.
Fluoride – there is a worldwide push against mass medication. The CCRC has opted for a phone
pole of 350 random residents (optimal for this size area) for minimal expense.
1200 kms of roads across the CCRC region that the council must look after.
Hillside erosion at South Mission Beach during the last heavy rains has been taken up with the
appropriate land owners.
State development is working on other alternatives, with regard to new/upgraded marine facilities
and will be coming to speak with council and rate payers in the next couple of weeks. We need to
see what the $16.5 million will be spent on (must all comply with GBRMPA). Note: this money
is not negotiable and will be spent in the water.
Dunk Island Spit Day Use Area is open and re vegetation by G Force landscaping is complete.
Spit area has been recently closed by the Resort due to dust and noise from Jetty reconstruction.
Mission Beach Pool – 6 to 1 resolution of council to keep the pool at Marks Park.
Funding for the pool will be put back due to natural disasters in the South East areas of the
state. Council is putting $500,000 per annum aside in each year’s budget towards the pool.
Julie Murphy of the Community Services Dpt is leaving at the end of March
Mission Beach Jetty construction begins next week and work is underway to save the Mango
Tree.
Coconut Removal Policy remains the same. Large coconuts overhanging car parks and walking
tracks are the only one to be removed.
Sand replenishing at South Mission Beach is in line with the law for this and is the same as has
always been done at South Mission Beach. It is heavier and will better for sand dune stability.
Questions to Mayor Bill Shannon



Query in regards to the rock wall at the southern end of South Mission Beach. This will be rebuilt
from the road side with large rocks, and then covered in sand.
Rotha Jago requested that the planning for the rock wall be done in coordination of council
departments. Mayor Bill Shannon advised that there are now elected officers for all departments
to run projects.
Liz Galli commented on the beachfront sand track along Garners Beach being fixed using
incorrect road base instead of sand. It is being done under cyclone recovery money and not tax
payers money and not the responsibility of the developers at the end of Garners Beach Road.
Presentation by Councilor Alistair Pike

Councilor Pike advised the information he has received is that the $16.5 million for marine
facilities in Mission Beach will be used in the water and not on land such as roads to boat ramps
etc.
Peter Heywood advised that the CCRC should be involved from the start. What goes on below
the water leads to what goes on above the water which is council responsibility.
Bill advises that he would push more if it was 17 months since the money was allocated however
being only 7 months he advises that it’s better in these instances to be steady and not get people
offside.
Ken Gray requested information on the closure and future closures of the Bingil Bay
Road. Mayor Shannon advised that there was potential for major landslides in this area and that
no major projects are planned, just precautionary geo stabilizing of the banks above the rocks.
Stuart England asked for information on the seemingly patchy work road repairs. He asked why
the roads are being finished in rough seal instead of what’s there as per the ‘like for like’
standard. Mayor Shannon advises that by doing this the money allocated for our roads will stretch
further as the contractor and works must be completed by 30th June 2013. The paper work is
immense (because of Labor’s pink bats catastrophe). There may well be another layer of smooth
seal to go on the roads?? Confirming also that this is NDRRA funding so tax payers are funding
not the rate payers.
Presentation by Michael Johnson

Michael presented the 2013 edition of the “State of Mission Beach 4852” report to Mayor
Shannon and Councilor Pike (no report in 2012/11 due to Cyclone Yasi)
Presentation by Truus Biddlecombe


Truus reported on the Green Cemetery and advised that councilors Pike and Nolan have taken on
this project.
Red Cross door knock- Truus needs 5 more people, please contact her.
Ken Gray thanked Truus - ‘we love her emails’.

Tony and Mal presented an update and power point presentation for Mission Cove on which has
been 20 years in the making.
Plans are available to view and any questions answered at Lee & Co Office, Reid Road and on our
website www.4852missionbeach.com
Stuart England questioned how we narrow down the three main proposals to go to government as
a cohesive community.
Questioned on how much Mission Cove Development would cost - $23 million.
Ken Gray does not believe the level of acceptance for the proposal. Ken requested that those in
favor of his proposal stand – to which there was a 90% acceptance.
Peter asked why Bill didn’t stand up. Bill responded that he was personally for the proposal
however as Mayor he must act on behalf of the whole Shire.
Peter Vaughan commented that Mission Beach used to be a great place to live, bringing up
children and make a reasonable living. He feels that Council should be more proactive in assisting
small businesses and take on board a more creative vision for the future.
Warwick – Thank you all for coming and thanks to the Mission Beach Resort for the use of the
meeting room.
