 Dual language immersion is a biliteracy program model that provides instruction in English and Spanish, or another language.
Instruction is provided to English language learners in an instructional setting where language learning is integrated with content
instruction. A minimum of 50% of instructional time must be provided in the language other than English. [Chapter 89.1227]
 The Language Arts Framework and supporting curriculum includes two to four-week cycles where one language focuses on
reading/writing to learn while the other language focuses on the writing process. The focus of instruction rotates between English
and Spanish Language Arts. Following are the links to the LA, DL Framework documents.
- 2nd and 3rd Grades One-Way: Framework
- 2nd and 3rd Grades Two-Way: Framework
- 4th Grade One-Way and Two-Way: Framework
* LOD: The Language of the Day block (15 min.) shall be dedicated to the writing process unit in the corresponding
language (Spanish or English) for explicit grammar instruction including skills that do not transfer.
-5th Grade One-Way and Two-Way: Framework
For guidance on the implementation of the school-wide dual language components and core content instruction delivery, refer to
the AISD Guidelines for Implementation of the Gómez and Gómez Dual Language Enrichment Model.
 Transitional bilingual/late exit is a bilingual program model in which academic growth is accelerated through cognitively
challenging academic work in the student's first language along with meaningful academic content taught through the student's
second language, English. The goal is to promote high levels of academic achievement and full academic language proficiency in
the student’s first language and English.
Dual Language instructional components may also be implemented in the transitional bilingual/late exit model.
 The Austin Health and Physical Education Office and Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) recommend that 10-15
minutes of daily unstructured recess time be scheduled in addition to the required WOW minutes.
2-3 minute Brain Breaks are also recommended to enhance student learning.
