Situation Report of National Highway Network
Monsoon Rains/Flood 2015
As on 23rd July 2015
Update on weather / rainfall and flood as taken from Pakistan Meteorological
Department on 24th July 2015 is at glance. Pakistan Meteorological Department has
informed that Scattered thunderstorm/rain of moderate intensity with isolated heavy
falls is expected over Sindh and Upper Catchments of all the major rivers along with
Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northeast Balochistan. Rainfall of moderate intensity
with isolated heavy falls is also expected over the Hill Torrents of DG Khan division.
FLOOD WARNING:
According to Flood Warning issued by Pakistan Meteorological Department, Flood
Forecasting Division, Lahore on 22nd July 2015, “an active Monsoon weather system is
likely to affect Sindh province which may cause fairly widespread thunderstorm/rain of
moderate intensity with heavy falls at isolated places and very heavy falls at some places
during next 4-5 days. Urban flooding is expected in Karachi and Hyderabad during the
period.
Scattered thunderstorm of moderate intensity with isolated heavy falls is also expected
in Balochistan especially northeast central and coastal Balochistan which may also
cause flooding in local nullahs and rivers”.

I:
HYDROLOGICAL SITUATION:
River Indus at Chashma , Taunsa, Guddu and River Kabul at Nowshera are in
Medium Flood Level. River Indus at Tarbela, Kalabagh, Sukkur, River Chenab at
Khanki and River Ravi at Sidhnai are in Low Flood Level. Sharp peak of High Flood
is expected in River Jhelum at Mangla (upstream).
II:
METEOROLOGICAL FEATURES:
a) Yesterday’s trough of westerly wave over Kashmir and adjoining areas persists.
b) Well marked Seasonal low lies over Northwest Balochistan.
c) Moderate to strong moist current is penetrating into Punjab & Kashmir upto
7000 feet.
d) Yesterday’s Low pressure area over North Madhya Pradesh (India) has become
insignificant for Pakistan.
III: FORECAST FOR NEXT 24-HOURS:
Scattered thunderstorm/rain of moderate intensity with isolated heavy falls is
expected over Sindh and Upper Catchments of all the major rivers along with
Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northeast Balochistan. Rainfall of moderate
intensity with isolated heavy falls is also expected over the Hill Torrents of DG Khan
division.
VI. WEATHER OUTLOOK FOR 25th July (10 AM) TO 27th July (10 AM) 2015:
Flow in River Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala is likely to increase by 10 to 15
thousands cusecs after 48 hours. Moderate to heavy rain is expected over the
catchment areas of River Kabul and its tributaries. Scattered thunderstorm/rain of
moderate intensity with isolated heavy falls is expected over Sindh and Upper
Catchments of all the major rivers along with Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and
Northeast Balochistan. Rainfall of moderate intensity with isolated heavy falls is
also expected over the Hill Torrents of DG Khan division.
Province-wise Situation Report for NH network;
Route wise updated status of rain / flood damages in different regions as
intimated by Regional Offices is as below:
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Regional Office
N-5, N-45, N-50, N-55, N-80, N-90, & N-95 falling in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are
open for all types of traffic except
i.
Bridge near Barones between Km 297+600 on N-45 has been repaired and
traffic is plying.
ii. Heavy rain caused huge land sliding and mudflow between Km. 401 to 437 on
N-5 at four different locations, road closed for heavy traffic, however, light
traffic is still plying. Heavy machinery already mobilized. Road will be opened
in couple of hours.

Northern Areas Regional Office
N-15, N-35 (KKH), S-2 and S-3 falling in Northern Areas despite rains all roads
are open for all types of traffic, except:
i.
at Km 48+700 on S-3, half-width road is open for traffic, machinery
mobilized at site to cater for any eventuality.
Gilgit-Baltistan Regional Office
N-15, N-35 (KKH) and S-1 falling in Gilgit-Baltistan are open for all types of
traffic.
Punjab North Regional Office
N-5, N-75, and N-80 falling in Punjab North are open for all type of traffic.
Punjab South Regional Office
N-5, N-5A, N-55 and N-70 falling in Punjab South are open for all types of traffic.
Sindh North Regional Office
N-5, N-20, N-55, N-65, N-455, M-8 falling in Sindh North are open for all types of
traffic.
Sindh South Regional Office
N-5 KTHH, N-5, N-25, N-55, N-110, N-120, M-9 and M-10 falling in Sindh South
are open for all types of traffic.
Balochistan North (Quetta) Regional Office
N-25, N-40, N-50, N-65 and N-70 falling in Balochistan North are open for all
types of traffic.
Balochistan South (Khuzdar) Regional Office
N-10 (Makran Coastal Highway) and N-25 falling Balochistan South are open for
all types of traffic.
Motorways (M-1, M-2 & M-3) Regional Office
M-1, M-2 & M-3 are open for all types of traffic. Discharge at Indus Bridge &
Jindi Bridge on M-1 & Jhelum Bridge on M-2 is monitored.
NOTE:

As reported by NHA field formation, contractor all along vulnerable
points have been put on alert along with machinery to cater for any
emergency.
