P5510 (EFA) 1. The file, Caldwellnm, contains data collected by Quionna Caldwell for her thesis. (If I haven’t described that study for you, remind me to ASAP.) The study was based on a questionnaire published by Mor Barak, M.E., Cherin, D. A., and Berkman, S. (1998). Organizational and personal dimensions in diversity climate: Ethnic and gender differences in employee perceptions. Journal of Applied Behavioral Science, 34 (1), 82-104. Mor Barak presented a questionnaire with 4 factors – Organizational Fairness, Organizational Inclusion, Personal Value for Diversity, and Personal Comfort with Diversity. The list of variables below contains a list of the variables in the file. The Mor Barak variables are the OFF, OIF, PCF, and PDVF variables. There are 16 that should be included. If one is reverse coded, a separate variable with the same number but with R as the last letter in the name will follow it. Use the reverse-coded variables, not the originals. Do not include the original version of any negatively-worded item in the analysis. Perform an EFA. Have SPSS extract only four factors. How well do the four you extract correspond to those proposed by Mor Barak? Use varimax rotation. Use the ML method. Submit 1) scree plot 2) rotated factor table 3) writeup describing how the Mor Barak factors were or were not supported in the Caldwell data. 2. The file, testletdata040810.sav, contains data from about 200 participants who filled out a standard personality questionnaire twice, once under instructions to respond honestly and again under instructions to respond faking good. Perform orthogonal EFAs with varimax rotation to determine the underlying factor structure of each of the two sets of testlets. (This means you’ll perform 2 separate FAs – one for the h testlets and one for the f testlets.) Use the ML method with varimax, orthogonal rotation. Extract 5 factors for each solution. Submit 1) scree plot for each analysis 2) rotated factor tables for each analysis 3) a writeup describing the difference in factor structure of the h testlets vs the f testlets. I believe there is a general difference associated with the instructional set. See if you can identify it. The testlets from the honest response conditions begin with the letter, h. They are hetl1, hetl2, hetl3, hatl1, hatl2, hatl3, hctl1, hctl2, hctl3, hstl1, hstl2, hstl3, hotl1, hotl2, hotl3. Those from the “fake good” instructional condition are fetl1, fetl2, fetl3, fatl1, fatl2, fatl3, fctl1, fctl2, fctl3, fstl1, fstl2, fstl3, fotl1, fotl2, fotl3. Ignore the variables with j in the name. Ignore the variables beginning with r. Ignore all the variables to the right of fotl3 in the file.
