RELIGION POLICY Rabboni Christian School’s philosophy is ‘EDUCATING CHRIST’S WAY’. Therefore every facet of the school is dedicated to serving one God under the Lordship and Headship of Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. Rabboni Christian School strives to enable staff and learners to reach their full potential in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. We strive to be an influence to people, schools and organisations through fellowship, friendship, service and in all things to be imitators of Christ. The school is founded on the Christian faith, belief and moral values. The school makes use of the Holy Bible, God’s written Word, for guidance. The school operates under the spiritual oversight of a Board of Trustees and a School Management Team. RABBONI CHRISTIAN SCHOOL PRINCIPLES AND EXPECTATIONS: 1) We expect our parents and learners to be committed to the vision and the mission of the school and to ascribe to the Statement of Faith. 2) All learners will be taught the school’s five Core values upon which our discipline and disciple programmes are based, namely Faith, Unity, Respect, Compassion and Diligence. 3) Learners from other cultures, religions and creeds are welcome to apply and attend school at Rabboni. Rabboni Christian School will, however, not endorse or embrace the needs of such learners regarding their religious practices, beliefs or festivals/celebrations. 4) All learners, their parents / guardians, the public and other stakeholders are informed through the application process, by way of personal interviews, the school policies and via the school’s communication channels and media. 5) The Good News will be taught and ministered in all classes and during assembly times without provision for any other religions or their respective rituals. 6) Prayer is a daily activity at Rabboni Christian School and is based on how Jesus taught his disciples to pray in Matthew 6: 7 – 13. Each new school day commences with prayer to open all meetings and gatherings and learners are encouraged to pray during assembly, during break times and at the close of each day. Learner Leaders also pray with one another and special prayer groups pray during break times and occasionally after school. 7) Christian believers will be given preference when applying for a post at the school and will be required to minister the gospel, pray with the learners and for the school and the greater community, uphold the Christian ethos of the school and attend Outreach programmes. Rabboni Christian School Religion Policy June 2014 8) The Holy Bible is the only acceptable book used as a spiritual teaching tool in the school. The following versions are permitted: King James, New International Version (NIV), Amplified, American Standard, Gideon Bible and the Good News Translation. 9) The entire school reads and memorizes Scripture verses or passages for edification and examination or Quiz purposes. 10) Any form of idolatry or religious jewellery is not permitted at school in the form of rosaries, good luck charms or Sangoma/Ancestral beliefs. 11) It is the responsibility of the Christian parent / guardian (the primary care-giver) to provide Christian training for their child/children as instructed in Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way that he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it”. Christian values taught at school are to be practiced and emulated in the home and therefore parents are to monitor the friends their children choose, the television/Internet programmes that they watch, the music that they listen to and the games that are played.
