Description of Functional Duties:
Pre Operation nursing care:
 Receive the patients from ward with all records and reports and check all the pre OP orders
has been carried out.
 Check the identified band, informed consent. Surgical preparation, NPO, Laboratory works,
Vital signs, Artificial Dentures should be removed .Patient should be on gown with cap.
 Providing emotional support.
 Establishing and maintaining functional position.
 Check the instruments if functioning well.
 Prepare the instruments according to the type of surgery.
 Help the anaesthesiologist for Intubation.
 Assist the surgeon in the role of scrub nurse.
 Assist in the role of circulating nurse and anticipate the need of surgeon and scrub nurse.
 Check the count of sponge, needle, instruments etc.
 Administration of injection, IV fluids, and blood products as ordered.
 Record the intake and output.
 Perform CPR .
 Transfer patient to recovery room.
 Send all the instruments for sterilization and prepare the operation room for next operation.
Post Operation nurse care:
 Check the vital signs of the patient.
 Maintain the position.
 Check the dressing for any bleeding.
 Administration of the medications as prescribed.
 Check intake and output.
 Endorse the patient to the ward staff after full recovery from anaesthesia.
