LARGER ITEMS THAT WE MAY BE ABLE TO SEND IN A CONTAINER THROUGH
SAMARITAN’S PURSE OR ROTARY:
Servicing prior to shipping: The equipment should be serviced / checked to confirm functionality of
equipment before it is shipped: ideally by the donor; if not, then by Samarian’s Purse biomed.
Suitability of equipment: to avoid equipment being shipped that cannot be used in our setting, we
request that details of available equipment (make and model) be sent to meddir.kh@gmail.com before
shipping of equipment to SP.
VAT and Duties on Arrival: Please be aware that all donations entering Kenya are subject to a Value
Added Tax (VAT) of 16%. As a hospital this cost can be prohibitive - please consider this when
fundraising for shipping costs and when completing your inventory of the declared value of the items.
Also, we would like to be notified if the sending unit (e.g, nursery at a particular donating institution) is
disposing of the equipment because of issues with antibiotic-resistant bacteria (e.g. multi-drug resistant
gram negative rods).
