April 16, 2014 UNT alumnus tapped as new Vice President for Finance and Administration Denton (UNT) – Bob Brown, a CPA and UNT alumnus, will join the University of North Texas as the vice president for finance and administration, effective May 12, 2014. Brown, who currently is vice president for business and administration at Texas A&MCommerce, has more than 30 years of experience as the chief business officer in various higher education institutions. “In Bob Brown, UNT will have strong, proven executive leadership for the division of finance and administration,” said UNT President Neal Smatresk. “The depth of Bob’s experience will be instrumental as we ensure the university has a strong financial foundation and solid budgeting processes. And, we will benefit from his proven track record of developing and implementing internal controls and cost-saving measures.” As UNT’s vice president for finance and administration, Brown will be responsible for the university’s budget and finance area, including treasury services, decision support, compliance, general accounting and contracts amongst other duties. He also will have oversight of facilities management, risk management, safety, and police. “I’m very enthusiastic about returning to my alma mater, where I had such a wonderful student experience. This is an exciting time to join the university’s leadership team, especially as President Smatresk begins his tenure at UNT,” said Brown. “I’m looking forward to leading a division with a number of extraordinary professionals. Together, we’ll make a great team.” During his tenure at Texas A&M-Commerce, Brown led the development of the university’s legislative appropriation requests, improved internal controls, developed and implemented cost-saving strategies and provided administrative leadership for the physical transformation of major areas of the institution’s campus. Prior to joining Texas A&M-Commerce, Brown served at Dallas County Community College District, North Harris Montgomery Community College District in Houston and Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is the 2008 recipient of the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers’ Distinguished Service Award and the 1996 Nation’s Outstanding Business Officer award from the Community College Business Officers’ International Conference. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Brown has been actively involved with United Way and several municipal committees and boards. He holds both a bachelor’s degree in business and an MBA from UNT.
