Monday

Learning Target:

I can explain how control genes activate different genes in different body cells.

Standards: NGSS

08-LS3-2

Develop and use a model to describe why asexual reproduction results in offspring with identical genetic information and sexual reproduction results in offspring with genetic variation.

Science

Lesson 1

Learning Target:

I can Create a Diagram used to explain each phase of Mitosis and

Meiosis

Standards: NGSS

08-LS3-2

Develop and use a model to describe why asexual reproduction results in offspring with identical genetic information and sexual reproduction results in offspring with genetic variation.

Lesson 2

Learning Target:

I can Create a Diagram used to explain each phase of Mitosis and

Meiosis

Standards: NGSS

08-LS3-2

Develop and use a model to describe why asexual reproduction results in offspring with identical genetic information and sexual reproduction results in offspring with genetic variation.

Lesson 3

Learning Target:

I can Create a Diagram used to explain each phase of Mitosis and Meiosis

Standards: NGSS

08-LS3-2

Develop and use a model to describe why asexual reproduction results in offspring with identical genetic information and sexual reproduction results in offspring with genetic variation.

Instructional Method

Bellringer:

Asked the students to reflect on what they though happened for there to be different body cells

Craft:

We did a class modeling of mitosis to each table represented a cell. They were then given direction from me to make a certain body part.

Workshop;

Class used their directions from me to make the full body.

Reflection:

Who acted as the control gene?

How do the control gene tell the cell how to express certain genes?

Instructional Method

Stations

85 Minutes at each station

Station 1 - Mitosis vs Meiosis

Students will infer and draw steps of meiosis and mitosis based off of steps of meiosis and mitosis

Station 2 – Cell Division

1.

Reading on Cell Division I

2.

While reading Graphic

Organizer (give 5 text and connection made with text)

Instructional Method

Bellringer:

1.

The bellringer question will ask the students to reflect on

Figuring out how many base pairs if they knew the name of the gene

Craft:

1.

Show both mitosis and meiosis and the similarities

2.

Review over how we drew in the Mitosis Drawings form text

Workshop:

1.

In groups they will create foldable for Meiosis using the directions from the packet

2.

Pairs will create a poster that shows all the steps

Reflection:

1.

Use the drawing to reflect on how gametes are made and how somatic cells are made
