*The Frank M. Norfleet Forum for the Advancement of Health *"Addressing Our Pediatric Obesity Epidemic: Research to Health Policy" Childhood obesity is a major national and international public health problem with serious implications for the future wellness of our population. Affected children will become adults with a greatly increased risk for diabetes, heart disease and other chronic diseases associated with significant morbidity and mortality that will severely burden our health care system. Obesity is especially prevalent in children in the Mid-South and Tennessee. A new collaborative initiative is under way in Memphis to address this critical problem through cutting-edge translational research supported by the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, the University of Memphis, and the Memphis Research Consortium, a state-funded initiative to foster collaboration across our local academic institutions and community. This meeting, made possible by the Frank M. Norfleet Forum for the Advancement of Health Fund at the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis, will allow obesity researchers, pediatric health care providers, and stakeholders to interact with leading experts in pediatric obesity.
